Dan,

As a first-time elk hunter this last month in Colorado chasing those beautiful animals on public land, I tip my hat to you... As a former editor, writer (maybe not so formerly ) and college composition instructor, I applaud your ability to relay your story in written form. Kudos!

Congratulations on an excellent elk!

Great story! All that work sounds just like every elk hunt I go on, work your butt off everyday.. but the payoff is oh so sweet!

I used to live in Montana in the 80'sbut had to move to the big city... this year will be my first year back hunting as a non-resident ($700 tag OMG!). We'll be hunting the Big Belts with my best bud who lives in Helena.. We'll be there in 3 days!!!!

What range were you guys hunting? I don't want any more specifics than that and certainly wouldn't expect it.
