How do you drag your deer out?
I'm just wondering here, I know some guys will use ATV's and such but in areas that you can't get a vehicle into what do you use?

RE: How do you drag your deer out?
Buck By his antlers
Doe with a drag rope |
RE: How do you drag your deer out?
Rope or harness strap, and leg and back power.
|
RE: How do you drag your deer out?
It really depends. But if I feel that I'm in for a real tough drag, I keep a deer sled around. It works very well.
Yup, that's the one I use pictured above except mine uses rope instead of straps, and it has no bodybag. |
RE: How do you drag your deer out?
I was thinking of picking up this thing
![]() anyone use it? |
RE: How do you drag your deer out?
Game cart........
|
RE: How do you drag your deer out?
I use my safety harness that I wear on my climber. The part that goes around the tree fits around the deers neck. I find this much easier than using a rope or pulling the deer by its feet/antlers.

RE: How do you drag your deer out?
good ole length of rope...tie the front legs upto the head and tie them as 1 and get a big ole stick and tie the other end of the rope to that...grab the stick and pull.
if you got a partner, get a bigger, longer stick and you can share the work. buck thats getting mounted i will most likely tie to the antlers and use a short rope and try to keep the cape off the ground... that is...when i cant drive the truck right to the deer. alot of times around home on the small woodlots it isnt too far till i can get the deer to a ATV trail or tractor path that i can get the truck into. i dont baby my truck...its already scratched and been rolled once:) just gives it character...thats all:D |
RE: How do you drag your deer out?

RE: How do you drag your deer out?
After two surgeries I drag them out in alot of pain. Can usually find help. I never take a drag line in either. It's always been a curse for me to be prepared to drag.
Boy-O-Boy even the little ones get heavy real fast. |
RE: How do you drag your deer out?

RE: How do you drag your deer out?
I usually pull them out by the antlers or use a deer drag that you put on like a back pack and then a rope tied to the deer connects to the middle of my back and then I just walk. Last year I was blessed to hunt with some friends that had a 4-wheeler. That is the way to go.

RE: How do you drag your deer out?
I carry two sharp knives and freezer bags in my pack. When I leave, my pack is heavy and I've got a cool looking skull in my hands to admire on the way back. Doesn't get that bad, even when I'm in deep.
Lets go Headhunters! |

Not only does it look funny, no one is dragging that think anywhere if that is how the antlers would be facing. Dig right into the ground;)

RE: How do you drag your deer out?
Ditto here. Works great- I have an o-ring attachment on my harness near the bottom of my back so I am pulling with mostly my legs.

RE: How do you drag your deer out?
I air lift mine out by helicopter. What do you mean how do you get them out,you grab the freakin thing (I mean beautiful creature) and start pulling!
How many times have you gone over to your recently killed quarry and pulled it in to position for field dressing and gone oh @#%& it is going to be a long morning/afternoon/evening. To give you a serious answer,Game carts are great, four wheelers are better, one or two friends, two to drag and one to hold equipment, boning and packing. It depends on where you are and what resources you have available to you. |
RE: How do you drag your deer out?
Rap it in a tarp so it drags nice then strap a rope on it then tie the rope to my hips and start pullin. Or if im really far from the trucks i just hike back and get the quad.
|
RE: How do you drag your deer out?
First I kill It,then gut It then I put It's front legs in the horns, tie a rope around the legs and horns and a stick on the other end and pull!!!

RE: How do you drag your deer out?
Crittergetter> that deer sleigh is a slick little deal. Never mind what these yahoos say. On level ground you walk along like the deer isn't there. Up hill you'll find it equally easy. Downhill it'll run over you if you aren't careful. They tell you to lay it on it's back like in the picture. I've found the deer wants to flop over on his side so I now just lay him on his side . It appears the deer has no legs because you fold them up. My version doesn't have this cover. I don't know how that would work. Mine just had some cheap twine you fed back and forth through some gromets. I got some better grade braided rope and put a couple old barrells off some calls on for handles. If I'm going deep into the woods I have the thing rolled up and packed on my stand going in. If I'm close to the road I just use my full body harness Prusic rope around the deers horns. This year I have a 4 wheeler for places I can use it.
