RE: How do you drag your deer out?
You try carrying that bugger out on your back opening day of gun season in PA or NY on public land and they'll be dragging you out with multiple bullet holes in your camo or blaze orange.[&:]

My buddy and I use a two-wheeled deer cart and help each other get them out.

RE: How do you drag your deer out?
put an orange vest on the head and throw him/her over the shoulders, firemans carry w/ stand on back and hump it outof the woods(for the civilians, hike it out). its only blood it will stain but who cares theres no permanent scent from it. if theres a dumbass that will shoot an upside down deer please let me know so i wont hunt anywhere near you.

RE: How do you drag your deer out?
I just eat the deer, take a nap and then walk out...

RE: How do you drag your deer out?
I've got a cart that I made with lawn tractor tires that is great for a long haul. The commercial ones with bicycle tires bog down and are hard to pull on soft ground. You may be able to put wider tires on the commercial ones with a little modification.
In central Florida where I grew up, the deer were small and we would gut them, cut a hole in the hock like you were going to hang him on a gambrel. Then you take the front legs and pass them through the holes in the hocks, cut the knee joint on the front leg and push the bone out of the hide to make a tee. Then you can bend down, put one arm through one front leg and one through the other and put the deer on like a backpack. With a small deer, it's really a great way to carry them long distances, just make sure you're covered in orange! |
RE: How do you drag your deer out?
I came across to hunters from Omaha dragging a big buck out by the hind legs. I stopped and told them it would be a lot easier to drag it the other direction using the antlers so you weren't dragging it against the fur.
I stopped back by a half hour later and asked them how it was going. They said it was dragging much much easier....but the pickup was getting farther and farther away. |
RE: How do you drag your deer out?
Muscles, dont have an ATV.

RE: How do you drag your deer out?
Some of these were pretty funny....... :D
I grab em by the "horns"..... That'sjust theway I roll..... I'm notgoing touse a 4 wheeler or game cart.... Maybe one day when I am a little older though? I work hard to kill my deer and I am going to work hard getting them out, that's how I look at it. |
RE: How do you drag your deer out?
If it is fairly long drag i will use a cart,if it's not too far i use my saftey strap or harness.
|
RE: How do you drag your deer out?
I'm with Buckeye. I usually jog to my stand......do jumping jacks on stand......shoot them and sprint the blood trail. Once there.....I drag him back to the tree I was in......and lay out all my gear in a line and do suicides back and forth to my vehicle to put my gear up. I then drag my deer out while subconsciously humming the theme from "Rocky".....and I've been known to add weight to the deer to make it tougher.
Seriously.....if I can drive the 4 wheeler right up to the deer.....I'm gonna.;) |
RE: How do you drag your deer out?
Since me and my buddy hunt a few miles from the trucks we ride camo bicycles close to our stands and walk the rest. When either of us kill one we field dress him and put it on the bike. The seat goes in the open cavity. Tie his head to the handle bars and legs to the frame and just push him out. Sounds a little weird, but it works.

RE: How do you drag your deer out?
i use the fall harness and the strap around its neck and muscle

Seriously.....if I can drive the 4 wheeler right up to the deer.....I'm gonna.;) I was self taught hunter thatdidn't come from a whole lot of money as a young man and this is how I learned to do it......Unlike when I was growing up I can afford a 4 wheeler, game carts etc etc now...... I will still drag them out by hand until the day I feel incapable of doing so safely. Ask my buddy Frank. He shot his buck down at camp last year on the 30th.... He used the 4 wheeler to get it out. I shot mine on the 31st and we drug it out by hand...It was a honest to god mile drag as well. I enjoyed every moment of it...... ;)Telling the story of the hunt and reminiscing back on the hunt you just had.... Don't get much better than that IMO :) [/align] |
RE: How do you drag your deer out?
Scott I was just poking fun.;)
I drag mine, too. I DID drive the ATV to get that doe the other morning. I was exhausted by the time I found her....and I needed to get her butchered, quick. No problem dragging....and I use my harness and the hooks on the side....and attach my tether rope to the deer's neck.....(unless the head has antlers;)). |
RE: How do you drag your deer out?
A Game Kart.........get one with the biggest (tall) bike wheels and the widest one you can find to. They work pretty good.
Good Luck! |
RE: How do you drag your deer out?
Suzuki Vinson...thanks to the loggers a few years ago, it isn't too far to a road in most parts of my property.
|
RE: How do you drag your deer out?
I drag them out the old fashioned way, by hand!:)
|
RE: How do you drag your deer out?
I drag em by the horns.
If you drag em by the feet, you keep getting further from camp. |
RE: How do you drag your deer out?
Tie the back two legs together.
Tie the front two legs together. find a stout branch and run it through the deers legs. Hoise the branch onto your shoulder and have your dad/buddy/huntin partner hoist the other to his shoulder. Walk out. |
RE: How do you drag your deer out?
Due to being a young strong guy with two artificial hips, I now have one of those game carts that folds up and collapses into a backpackable cart. Works well, all things considered.

RE: How do you drag your deer out?
i use my bare hands
|
RE: How do you drag your deer out?
Tag along behind, enjoying the sight of my old man dragging the deer.
|
RE: How do you drag your deer out?
Drag to the nearest field or trail then it's the YAMAHA. Haven't dragged a deer to camp since 1987!
|
RE: How do you drag your deer out?
Just tie my safty harness around the neck and front legs and walk on out.
|
RE: How do you drag your deer out?
No one calls their wife to help with the drag? She drags, I tell her where the stumps are so she doesn't trip.
|
RE: How do you drag your deer out?
After I shoot I call my friend Chuck Norris, he tees it up and roundhouse kicks to the truck.
If he's not available, I use a dead sled tied to my climbing harness. |
