depends on much more than poundage, such as type of head and how sharp it is, how TUNED your bow is, and as mentioned, what you hit. If you hit a deer broadside with a 2 blade cut on contact and catch no ribs I bet you could pass though with 20 ftlb of KE...but not recomending it

ive seen 40lbs pass thru and stick in the dirt just dont hit anything hard with a sharp head and its pretty easy to get through a deer. just think people shot recurves and stuff with alot less KE and got pass throughs not as much as we do now but its all in the hit and the head your using.
