this may or may not be true in all areas of the country(I`m no scientist) but in mn. you will see fawns born at two differant times of the year, vissably differant in size and maturaty

Whitetail deer gestation is aproximately 200 days or 6 1/2 months.
Lets say they were about3 months old. This would put conception
around March. This is unussual but not impossible. A deer comes into heat
in late Nov-Dec. If she is not breed, she will come into heat every 28 days until she is breed. So in answer to the "second" birth, she may have a birth any time of the year. Just depends on when she gave it up.
By the way, no I would not shoot because if they are still in spots then they are most likely nursing too.

Ihave had the same scenario and I was about to execute the shot when I saw a fawn out of the corner of my eye so I let down.
The fawn had spots and the doe dropped off in a creek bed and grunted, then another fawn showed up from across the creek. They started nursing right there in front of me at 20 yards.
I was real glad I decided to pass.
I am not against shooting a doe with fawns but this was EARLY september and the fawns needed their mother at this point imo.Otherwise the coyotes would have been well fed because they would have eaten the young ones.
Heck,I am not above shooting a fawn but I do draw the line at spots.[:-]

....and the winter, if you saw them in Dec, would kill them for sure and a whole lot more brutally. I would take a fawn.
