Be forewarned; you're starting down a very dangerous path asking questions such as these... One day you could end up like this! []

All I had ever used was the WalMart camo until I heard about Enigma and an open pattern design, so I got a set - let me tell you it is incredible. During a spring turkey hunt I tried to make noise to get deer to look at me but it was like I was invisible - they tried to find me but couldn't - I will never go back to standard camo!

I hope I'm not hijacking here, but as far as predator goes, does fall gray make for a good year round pattern? Or, would brown deception be better?

I wouldn't wear Fall Grey in the spring turkey woods and I honestly feel Brown Deception would be their only year round camo other than Fall Brown as well. Green is no good when the leaves are down and Grey wouldn't be advisable in the spring woods.

I wore that Fall Grey in the June woods for bear only because my background was white skies and a huge white Birch/grey pines....it was all about backdrop.

Fall Grey is exceptional when all the leaves are down.

Greg / MO wears Green early season and Fall Grey late season.

Fall Brown or Deception could be worn year round in my opinon...more so Fall Brown. We've used it in the spring woods for PA gobblers as well as early, mid and late season whitetails.

Having said that though, the colors are only for our human eyes -- not deer's.

Before I had the resources to have both, I was quite comfortable with my Fall Gray when there was an abundance of foliage in the trees. If you take a photo of either Spring Green or Fall Grayand turn it black and white, you couldn't tell what pattern the wearerhad on. Again, the colors are for us as deer hunters, and turkeys.

I've written it many times, and it always seems to make sense to those who understand it... If Fall Gray is deemed as such an incredible pattern when there's no leaves on the trees (and it universally is), then HOW MUCH better is it going to be by ADDING foliage in between you and your quarry?

Remember, as 99% of us are treestand hunters, our backdrops are just about always those light-colored skies. It's rare that deer will approach every time and allow you to keep that big, beautiful tree trunk behind you the whole time like some company's promotional pics would have you believe!

Deception is a tricky pattern: In some instances, it looks great (think the pic in Cabela's); but I've held plenty of samples in my hand that didn't offer as much contrast -- and with open-concept patterns, it's all about the contrast. Contrast is what breaks up the human outline and differentiates these patterns from those mass-marketed, looks-good-at-arm's-length other ones that blob up past 15 feet. If I were dead-set on buying Deception, I'd have to buy it in person and hand-pick the outfit.

Agreed Greg, and that's why I still say Fall Brown is the best Predator pattern available. Great for the treestand, great for the ground, great for turkeys.

Predator Fall Brown, Enigma G2 and ASAT all utilize the browns, tans and blacks that all predator/prey animals utilize and who can argue with God's perfected camo.
