A majority of people seem to be saying that "If it is legal, go for it."

Are we trying to imply that everything that is legal, is right? And that for baiting to be wrong, it would have to be illegal?

Baiting can be wrong/right and still be legal/illegal.

Shooting quail on the ground, before they have flushedis legal, but it certainly isn't fair chase. As a sportsman, I think it is wrong to hunt in that way. Same forbaiting. Hunting is one of the last "pure" sports. It really is and by hunting in ways that taint the purity (feeders, bait, high fences), it takes away from fair chase.

If spotlighting deer and shooting them were legal, would we condone that as hunting? Of course not.

But it is not, and what we are talking about is. We could make up a very long list of hypothetical scenarios, but thats not going to change anything.

My point was, and I apologize if it wasn't clear, is that just because something is legal, doesn't make it right. And many of the replies said, basically, "if it is legal, then it is acceptable." That is not true. It simply is an excuse.

Ok, forget spotlighting. Shooting upland birds on the ground is legal. But it is unethical. Why is it unethical? Because the game animal is automatically at a disadvantage. It doesn't stand a chance. That disparity between the hunter and the game makes it unethical.

Well here’s my take on the whole ordeal. I would not find any interest in hunting a place where baiting was a widespread practice and the primary means of getting a deer. (ie, texas ranch hunting) It doesn’t interest me, I prefer to hunt deer in other ways.

I honestly don't care how people hunt whether it be over bait, over a soybean field, over a bedding area, ect...

What I don't understand is that each time baiting is brought up someone ALWAYS has to go and slam Texas for their baiting practices. Look, I have feeders which sometimes I hunt by and sometimes I do not. I don't go around pointing my finger at Pennsylvania, Iowa, Kansas or any other state for that fact because people plant food plots. You want to get someone fired up quick then just keep throwing pointing fingers at states. Look, I am not trying to go off on anyone, I'm just pissed that everytime the word "BAITING" comes up on here people say "Yeah, like in texas where they bait" or "All texans do is hunt over bait"

There I vented a little. I feel much better.

That's your opinion. Thanks for sharing.

In the eyes of the law.....it's legal. What "I" or "YOU" think after that.....is "opinion". The law has made it's "opinion" known.

Follow that.....and I won't have issue with your CHOSEN practice. It might not be for "me".....but as a fellow hunter....I won't berate you for your CHOICE.

Hunter's that are still arguing over this have more options/places/ & time to hunt than I do. I hunt where I can, when I can.... Any day I can get in the woods to hunt is a good day, feeder or no feeder.

If it's legal to duct tape an arrow to the front of your ATV and chase 'em down....

Have at it.

I respect everyone's views.....but respect the man hunting legally, Equally. To each his own.
I agree GMMAT.

These posts really bother me, it almost seems like some of you guy's are saying your better than anyone else because you hold yourself to a higher set of values/ ethics. I don't bate, I don't cheer or jump up and down when a kill an animal, and I thank God for every breath I take. Does that make me any better of a hunter or person? I don't think so, I'm a regular guy trying to learn something about hunting. Why do you spend all of this time worrying about what another guy does in his state on his property(if it's legal)?
