Default AND ONE MORE.... gun season.

I stopped a Lens today to pick up a dozen and a half arrows he was refletching for me. While I was there he informed me we have YET ANOTHER gun season this weekend. Man, will they never end. Let me see if I can recall them all.

A youth hunt in Sept.
An early muzzleloader season.
Then another youth hunt.
Then shotgun.
Then muzzleloader.
and NOW... another 2 day shotgun.

These things are scattered starting in Sept. You can be sitting quietly in your woods and BLAMO. Someone rocks your world. The season ends and it's just getting quiet and BLAMO.... they do it again. To the best of my knowledge we've had 6 gun seasons come and go this year. They vary in length from a couple days to 3 weeks. This is screwy. So, Friday and Saturday I'll have to break out some hunter orange to take bowhunting. We had a late muzzleloader season end last Saturday. This is really crazy. The bow season goes until the end of Jan but the deer never get a chance to quiet down starting in October. It's just unnerving. There .... I feel better.

I feel your pain David. Although our gun season is over we have a late season muzzleloader season that runs concurrent to bow season until the season ends for both on Jan. 10th.

When one of those .50 calibers go off close by it makes me glad I'm belted into the tree! It gets your attention in a hurry!

The bow hunters here don't have to wear hunter orange during Muz. season. The other day I had two guys walk right past me making all kinds of noise (they were driving the deer to standers). Of course they never knew I was there. Lucky for them they are on the right end of the food chain.

They ended up getting one, although I didn't see it. Taking a guess from what went by me I would say they shot a doe. There was a nice buck in the area, I saw him when I went to my stand that day. He was not in the bunch that ran past my stand. I know they didn't get him because I saw him day before yesterday again.

Because of the deer numbers I don't look for the gun seasons to get any shorter (unless there would be a disease problem where large populations are affected). It sure makes it hard to make a plan come together when natural movement is altered so much. I guess we will just have to grin and bear it.

Most of us PRAISE the xtra 2 days. No disrespect meant.

Oh, it's not all bad when you hunt semi private ground. I'd just rather have them tack on another few days or week while they have it going. The stopping and starting just keeps them stirred up for ever. Heck, I may just take a shotgun out and see if I can hit something with it. I bet I can. It does give me the opportunity to shoot a couple more bucks.

I know... I told Len I may take a gun out. He was shocked to learn I had one. He didn't know I had a shotgun. Heck, I have 3 of them. A Winchester Model 12 trap model in mint condition from back in the 50s, a Browning Light Twelve and a 20 guage Ithaca. They're around here some place.

I'll be out in MD this weekend, but I'll stick with the sikas with the bow, they're not open for rifle this weekend, I can get away from it.
I do wish they had the season earlier, I've already seen quite a few that have shed. Alkways a shame when one of those gets shot.
