What does it take to become Prostaff

I would like to know this myself. What determines whether someone is good enough to become a prostaff member? As far as Im concerned anyone with an interest in hunting should be a prostaff member as long as they are ethical in their choices and they can properly represent the team. I would like to hear what people think about this. Whatdifferenciates between prostaff and everyday hardcore hunters.

I would have to say if you want to be a prostaff you obviously have to have the experience in the field, proof of skill and experience, so there for a few nice bucks/bulls under the belt, have to have lots of knowledge in lots of the fields in hunting, be it deer, elk, predator, bird, so a well rounded hunter.

Unless you've got a pile of animals in the books and have them pounding on your door begging you to be a staffer, it's mostly about knowing the right people.

What I am saying is that if a pro staff and a hardcore hunter are pretty much one in the same, then whats the difference? A camera, maybe sponsors, maybe a little money to back them up, and the fact that that is their full time job.

You also need to have the time to attend the shows, and be willing to travel. I got a couple of friends that Prostaff, one for Drake Waterfowl, and the other for Avery. Seems like they both do a lot, for not much in return, other than discounts and the title of Pro-Staffer. Both of them are members of Huntingnet.

A friend of mine is PSE pro-staff, and realy isn't thatgood of a shot nor hunter. It is often times who you know that determines pros as opposed to expertise.

Yeah Jim, i agree.

I think the ability to consistantly put big bucks down also has a lot to do with it. Sponsors want to see a lot of video/pictures with big bucks and their products...

I think a prostaffer is basically a dedicated, hardcore hunter that found an oportunity

"Pro-staff" has to be one of themost overused terms in the hunting industry.

I agree with this totally. Everytime I open up a Redhead magazine all I see is Prostaff Member Wiggles McGee uses a Hoosker Doo when he shoots yadda yadda yadda.

Yeah, my observation has always been that - if in your little head, you decide that you are a "Pro Staff" - then you are. It's just that simple.

It may be because somebody gave you something for free or at a discount, or justmaybe because you started your own little hunting "club" with some online buddies- then you are a "Pro Staffer" for that shop/company/club. Congratulations, you're halfway to becoming the next Bill Jordan.

For example, you go to the bow shop - owner says "Hey, try out these arrows - no charge." Or "Here, have one of these hats that I had made - with my shop logo printed on the front." Guess what?! You're a pro staffer.

Maybe you need a kisser button installed, he puts it on and says "don't worry about the couple dollars." Guess what?! "Saunders Kisser Button Pro Staff, Baby!" Like money in the bank...

Maybeyou email a company and say "I'm the top dog bowhunter in my area. Deer quake in their winter coats at the sound of my name. I want to try your broadheads, but I'm too cheap to pay for them." Then, some schmuck customer service rep doesn't want to quarrel with you about your huntingprowess, or hear your idle threats about how you're gonna "tell all your buddies to boycott their company,"so he gives you a pack of broadheads to shut you up and make yougo away. Guess what?

You got it! "Pro Staff Baby!"

It's too bad that the term is overused. You have one guy who gets a free hatis a member of ahunting club and calls himself a pro-staffer. And another guy (like Hunsucker) who is a legit Pro-staffer for an awesome upcoming video for HB. I'll tell you what, if Hunsucker sold stocks in HB, I'd be the first to buy :D

The first person knows someone who is in the business, owns one themselves, or pays for the titlebyeither cash or hunting rights to thier property so the company who "Sponsors" them can "Pimp" thier product while being there shooting big deer.

The second person...is the rest of us.:D

Both excellent points. I just became a prostaffer for G5.

First and foremost, you need to be professional and not blow smoke up people's skirts. Secondly, you need to be reliable. Thirdly, having some good first hand experience with the product and the sport is needed. Lastly, you need to be in the right geographic location. If there is a company that is growing, and does not have a prostaffer for you part of the state, often all you have to do is ask. If you are on one or two prostaffs already... then usually its as simple as signing a contract or asking someone at the company. A co-worker and friend of mine picked up the phone and called Double Bull archery, asked if they had a prostaffer for tidewater VA. They said they did not and offered him the spot. Free blind with it to boot in exchange for a weekend of demos at a hunting show.

Prostaffs are really just resume builders. Its sort of like having a certification. You might be able to run a boat up an inlet backwards and with your eyes closed in the fog... but having a captains liscense shows someone you know what you are talking about. Same thing with CPR and first aid. If you work in the hunting industry at all, having some sort of certification/prostaff/etc etc attached to your name helps people trust you right off the bat.

The contract is what differentiates between being a "supporter" and "pro staff." A person can support, and even advertise a product, w/out being a staff member. There are several different staff positions.....Pro staff, shooting staff and hunting staff are the 3 I can think of. The contract is what "allows" someone to declare themselves a staff member of a certain company.
