I have shot 3 million deer with a bow and only two turkeys with a bow. One while deer hunting ther other turkey hunting. Low # of birds where I used to live.

Mine was while I was deer hunting last fall. I saw them a week earlier, but didn't have a turkey tag. Came back the next weekend with a tag and they showed up again!

If you go deer hunting but also have a turkey tag are you still just deer hunting? I've shot 5 with my bow during deer season. In the spring it's 12 gauge time!

Yes.... just because I personally hunt turkeys because they gobble, and save three exceptions that come to mind they only gobble in the spring.

Turkey's are cheaper and don't smell or have feathers at the supermarket.... I hunt turkeys because I love to hunt turkeys.

I have no qualms at all with anyone who shoots them in the fall, espeically some folks who have dedicated turkey dogs (I think thats great and I've tagged along on a couple of hunts like that and its really neat). Just a personal pref thing for me, I'll save mine for the spring..

tell the story ducsauce?
Haha...well that turkey was sort of shot out of season by mistake. I got my dates mixed up and killed her thinking season was still in. Checked it in and everything. Called the game warden and turned myself in. Long story short...they took it easy on me. Just got 8 hours community service and 1 month probation.

It makes for a great story though.

I kinda agree Swamper but I have to say, busting a flock and calling them in can be just as magical as the spring and believe me, I've heard a ton of gobblers in the fall, you'd a thunk it was spring. I've had them strut in too.
