Happened to me. I droped the bow, and it landed on the sight. The little plastic window that covers the fiber broke; no biggie.

ok let me get this straight, u go to pull ur bow back ...slip... punch urself in the face?
lol i think thats the jist(sp?) of it. LMAO great summary

ive done this once using a thumb release on my bow fishing bow, IN MY ROOM. good thing an arrow was nocked, for the bow anyway, bad thing for my carpet. about half of the arrow was buried under my carpet, pulled it out and responded to my mom yelling what was that " i dropped my bow" i felt half retarded but atleast i was woken up as to what style release i would NOT be using EVER again. lol

You may need to look into a new release.

I know the old Scott caliper releases were bad about the loops slipping through when they got worn.

There are some loop specific releases now that are shorter and can not slip through no matter what because they have a hook instead of calipers.

I did this with a Carter Chocalate addiction, and a Zenith back tension. Still shoot them both , but when using them, I do what Arthur P describes. I bled pretty good both times, not fun.[&:]

Get a gator jaw release. its a release that clips onto both above the knock and below the knocking point. It doesnt use a string loop but it covers the same principle. I used to shoot one until it was stolen along with my bow. Now I use a string loop but speaking of that Im going to go by me a new one. I dont want to punch myself in the face. Im not a very good fighter.[8D]

I think I responded to you in the Gear Section Forum regarding back tension releases. Apparently you didn't read what I said or didn't understand it. The new back tension releases have a safety on them that prevents them from going off as you draw. They will not fire until you release the safety. Then it is just a matter of pulling through the shot and it will fire. I also don't believe you have ever shot a back tension release or you might tone down some of your comments. They are not for everyone. But, if any shooter works with one long enough to be accomplished with it, he will be a better shooter. Also, even though I don't hunt with one at the present, I can get a shot off just as fast as you can with your trigger release and without punching. I once watched Randy Ulmer shoot a true back tension release at an electrical moving turkey and he center punched the bird for a ten. Don't get me wrong. I am not advocating that everyone run out and get a back tension release. However, they are a valid option and certainly can get the job done. Also, if you think I would use any piece of equipment that might reduce my chances at that "once in a lifetime buck or bull", you must be smoking something that I wouldn't touch.

At least it happened to you while you were target shooting. I did the same thing while drawing back on an antelope. I got about half way and I guess I was excited and accidently toched the trigger and whack, right in the nose with the back of my hand. The arrow made it about half way to the antelope and the two guys with me were all laughing.

Thanks for the post Greg, and to all who help me not feel that dumb. I think I am going to be a little paranoid for the first few shots. Haven't told my hunting Buddy's yet and dont know if I will
