Default squirrel problem

I was watching a hunting show last night. The host showed a stand laying on the ground and said a squirrel chewed the webbing all the way through. He said if you leave your stand up check your stand before you get in.A squirrel may chew the webbing just enough to severely weaken your stand.Thought I would pass this information along.Has this happend to any of you?

Climbed into my stand one day, flipped the seat down. A mouse had built a nest inside the folded seat. Well, when I flipped the seat down, that little mouse did his best ever Carl Lewis impression and jumped up over my shoulder and hit the ground 18' down running. Scared the daylights out of me.

Thanks for the laugh, Zippernut! I did have a squirrel chew one of my straps, fortunatly he started at the long end and must have gotten full before he worked his way all the way back to the rachet. Still useable, but definetly something to watch for. I normally take all my stands down right after season, saves a multitude of problems.

I have an old ladder stand with a wooden platform on it. I don't know what got it but some critter had to hang onto the tree or upside down and chewed the heck out of the platform from the bottom side. Maybe a squirrel, maybe a porky???????????

Where I live, almost anything made from plywood will be chewed beyond use in very short order by the squirrels. I once walked away from a tree seat to answer natures call, when I came back, there was already a grey squirrel chewing away at it. I was told they like the glue in the plywood.??

Never thought of this problem. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. Must be at least 6 nests near my stand.

We had a similar problem too. Chewing the rubber, chewing the wood, chewing everything. But now that bow season is over in our area we take it a step further. We bait every stand with a 5 gallon bucket of corn for our Squirrel Eradication Tournament. 4th Annual this year!!!! Yeah it's just another reason to go up to the cabin but we make a weekend out of it. We wage war on the little guys that create havoc all fall long. We have about 15 guys that will be pounding the 223 acres of woods that me and my three buddies own. We shoot .22 rifles only. Then we give the squirrels to a Hmong family that loves them. The winner gets all the drinks he wants that night at all of the losers' expense. We hope to be able to book 50 this year. In years past, 41 was our best number. When the next year comes around...it's like we never killed one of them. Resilient little guys that they are. It's a great way to get away from cabin fever.

I have had them chew on my foam seat cushion, and the straps. I think it may be time for squirrel gravy!
