We laugh....but we use fake: Deer (doe and buck); urine (doe and buck); cover scent; mock scrapes; mock rubs and I've even heard of people suggesting putting fake hunters in stands so as not to educate the herd.
Next thing is we're gonna have someone paint a pond on a sheet of plastic....and draw 'em in for a drink.
Nothing surprises me, anymore.

Apples make great bait, but are sometimes illegal and the deer eat them faster than I can tote them to the woods.
What works well and is legal here is to.
Take some pantyhose fill em about 1/2 full with apples.
Tie a rope around 'em and hoist 'em up a tree.
They need to be 7-8 ft off the ground (just out of the deers reach)
In the hotIndian Summer It doesn't take long for the apples to get over ripe.
In notime you can smell apples 100yds away and soon the juice starts to drip on the ground and the deer go nuts.
Our game wardens do not concider this baiting - BUT - you might want to check with yours.
If you add more apples every 2-3 weeks you will have a steady stream of deer checking it out.
We usually set this up 50-75 yards in the woods near a food plot or corn field.. The deer will check it on the way to the foor source while they are waiting for it to get dark.
