Your Plans for Opening Day
How many have already made their "Gameplan" for opening day? Do you know where and what stand you're using? Have you worked out the details or still relying on some additional scouting to decide for sure?

RE: Your Plans for Opening Day
Sure.
Hunting with my son......I'm not only limited to morning stand locations.....I'm somewhat limited to access....because I know:
1) he's not going to get up at 3:30 and go in the way I want to.
&
2) he's likely not going to be as stealth or scent-free as I'd like
SO.....
I'm gonna enjoy the hell out of hunting with him.....on somewhat his terms. I know one of the two trees, already (his).
Good luck.

Yes I have tradition and hunt my ladder stand thats been there for about 9 or 10 years. So far every year
the wind has been out of the SW which helps. If it is not this year so be it. After that its all wind for me.

RE: Your Plans for Opening Day
Well, opening day in Iowa is always kind of special to me. The last few years, (which is how long I have been bow hunting) opening day has come up the day before my birthday! It's kind of an early birthday present to me! I'm going to change things up this year. I am going to spend opening day at my newest aquired hunting spot that I picked up just shortly after shotgun season last year. The deer are plentiful, and the farmerjust wants them gone. I'm going to pull an afternoon hunt, and sit till dark right on the trail to one of the main bedding areas. Granted the wind cooperates!

RE: Your Plans for Opening Day
My plans are to take a doe. I'll be sitting in a tree in a white oak stand.
The area I will be hunting is under a management requirement to shoot a doe before a buck. This arae has not been hunted in about 30 years ,until last year when we conduted the FIRST archery hunt here to help control the deer herd.
There are some 170 class bucks here as well as alot of "just plain nice" bucks,so opening day is doe day. Then I can concentrate on finding the big one.
