Cabelas... hunting gear in general.... random complaining

Cabela's almost always has what I need and that's what counts to me.
You can't beat their return policy. It's nice to be able to order certain items on line as well.I don't go there for an education, so the sales people can be as dumb as a clam as far as I'm concerned. The less experienced shopper/hunter will suffer though, that's a shame. [&o]

I went to cabelas today to buy a new climbing stand. I knew what I wanted but wanted to make sure I liked it before I bought. They had a sales rep from summit that explained everything about all of thier stands. The achery department was a mess as normal but the trip was worth it overall.

My wife worked at the BPS when it opened here and knows how the place is. Everything that's clearance or on sale is hit by the employees first and held for their friends. This happens everywhere, so it's not really such a big deal. But, we went to the Fall Hunting sale today, and they didn't have half of what they had advertised. After spending nearly 4 hours going through the place we checked out with everything from a feeder to food plot stuff to a harness for my son.....$470 worth of stuff, would have been$1000 if they'd had the other stuff I wanted. Went to check out, not problems. Unfortunately you can only buy a license at the return desk, so me and my son walked up to the desk where there was only one customer. Fifteen minutes waiting and talking to the customer because the employee was clueless, and Manager of the Day or MOD apparently. After the customer in front of me left, she looked at me, the went on to givea kid who just walked up change. While the kid was waiting, a Vendor from one of the companies there walked up. She looked at me again, then proceeded to ring up the vendor. After I interrupted her, she "realized" she'd ignored me. I said my peace and was willing to buy my license at Wal-mart when she, without realizing I was standing by the door, proceeded to make faces and laugh with the wife of the vendor who'd walked up. By this time I was about at PO'd as any human can get.
Needless to say, I ended up leaving with nothing, they lost $470 and the store manager is going to get a call from me next time she's in the store.
Makes me sick that such a place that started with the customer coming first is now nothing more than the Wal-mart of the hunting and fishing world.

For archery needs I always go to my local pro shop first....except for hunting clothes. They normally don't carry any and if they do the prices are as high as Cabelas, Gander Mtn., etc.
Putting K-mart and Wally World into the same class as Cabelas is unbelievable. You are not going to buy the same quality in hunting clothes, scopes, binocs, etc. as you'll find at Cabelas. You are going to get what you pay for no matter where you shop.

Cabela's and Bass Pro are both over priced but I still use them sometimes. It seems like they are more geared for the tourist than the hunter. I prefer Sportsmans Warehouse and use them as much as possible. We have a new Cabela's coming here to Denver soon.
Does anyone know if Cabela's has a gunsmith like Bass Pro?
I should add, all the years thatI have been buying from Cabela's, I've never been let down even one time from their customer service.

I still buy a lot of stuff from them, always will. Their return policy is second to none. Where else can you take in a pair of 3 year old chest waders with a leak in them. They run your name, looks like you bought those 3 years ago, we can give you 75% of original value for them. Wal-Mart, no returns after 45 days period, no matter the warranty or how much it cost.
They are expensive on some items but you get quality for the spendy stuff. The sales people are irrelevant to me, I know what I want when I go in and don't expect that they will know better than I. That said, if you are in the Omaha area stop in and visit with the 2 guys that work in bowhunting, both very knowledgeable, helpful and nice guys.
I still think a gift from Jesus has arrived when I get my catalogs, even though I own just about two of everything in them.
They will be around long after we are gone.

That is why I shop at the local archery store up the road they seem to care about your needs more if they depend on your support for the survival of their business

Yeah, that happened to me hillbilly. I wasn't even going to take them back. I caught them on some brush under the water trapping beavers and tore a big hole in the leg. My cousin talked me into taking them back.
