Hey All

Hey guys,
I've spent lots of time on other forums, but I was talking to my uncle about what I should save up for next season, and originally I was thinking of a turkey shotgun, but he has two, so that's covered, so he suggested that I look into taking up bowhunting next year after this coming season, which I will be firearm hunting.
Anyway, I don't really know anything when it comes to what a good bow is, so I was looking for suggestions, and I knew this is the place, so any help or pointers you could give me as to what's a good bow, etc.
I love to read bowhunting magazines, but they're really just a bunch of advertisers,, if you know what I mean, when it comes to products, just like Field & Stream is about firearms.
Thanks in advance,
Josiah

find a local shop and check out as many bows as you can then pick the one that feels best to you in your price range. They would be the best to help you out with draw length and other things on a bow

Yep make sure your local pro shop sets it up. If you do buy one from lets say bass pro, gander, or sporting goods at least take it there for the setup. Just saying because sometimes cheaper price at those retailers.

The suggestions about going to an archery pro shop is right on the money. They will set you up with the correct draw length, poundage, proper spined arrows and other equipment necessary to shoot well. They will also probably give you some advice as to proper shooting form. Going this route gets you started right and not developing bad habits that are very hard to break down the line. Most of them also have a used bow sale rack which can get you into the game for a lot less money. Todays bows are made so well that with new strings and cables most of them are good to go. Good luck. You will love archery. There is nothing like having a buck deer or a bull elk within bow range.

So I guess searching for a bow is much different than searching for a rifle, where brand suggestions tend to dominate.
So, it doesn't matter if it's a "never-heard-of" brand, just so long as it shoots well, and I can afford it?
What about broadheads? What kind should I use then? My uncle uses expandables when he's deer hunting, but it appears that fixed blade are more popular, I guess.
I'm just really new to this, I don't know much about it, except I read something in bowhunting magazines, which doesn't help me in selecting something.
