Long range second shot Pt.2
#1
You are in your treestand and a deer stops 13 yds away. You do everything right but the deer jumps forward just as you shoot. You KNOW the arrow hit 6-8 inches back, not the best shot. The deer runs aways away and stops. You range it with your rangefinder atXX yds. The deer is broadside again and in a clear lane. If you would attempt a second shot what is the maximum range you feel confortable shooting?

It's already got a lethal wound so what have you got to lose? I would try out to 80 probably, but luckily I have never had to do that. The only second shot I have ever had to make was at 20 yards.

Good question. In these circumstances I would sling another arrow at 50 yards max. I am fairly accurate and confident at that range.I definitely would hold my pin dead on the heart in case the deer dropped down to leap away.
However, the deer knows something is up and a longer shot such as that may enable him the jump the string. Depends on the bow and shooter I guess. The deer is bound to die but a second arrow would end his/her misery alot sooner.
I dunno...thats a tough one. Its one of those executive decisions that would have to be made at that time.

Any shot at a wounded deer ,that can be taken safely, is a good one!

yea but like it was already said, even if you hit 6 in back it may expire but it could suffer more if you dont shoot again. you dont have anything to lose Plus if you put a second hole it may make it easier to track. and possibly not take as long even if your second shot does hit it in the guts again
what are you going to doinjure it?????

I practice regulary out to 60 yards and can keep most the arrows in a softball size maybe larger on some days. I do however know that the bottom of my sight ring is right at 80 yards so if he is within 80 yards I am going to try it. More than likely he would jump the string and since it will take the arrow a while to get there he would have moved. Heck I have had deer jump the string at 30 yards and it grazes right off thier back or slightly over it. He may just come up in time to hit it again.
Can not hurt to try and get another one in it IMO.
