RE: Long range second shot Pt.2

If it is already wounded with what I would guess would be a gut shot. Any shot I would try in an effort to kill it quicker and more humanly.

RE: Long range second shot Pt.2

If I wanted to take a second shot on a wounded deer, I would take it out to 85 yards which is my furthest pin.
I practice regulary out that far through the summer( & w/ broadheads out of curiousity in how they fly), and in a HUNTING situation i beleve that i can put a broadhead in the vitals 2/3 times at that distance.

HOWever, in the given senario,a stomach shot deer is likely to bed down that close if left alone, and i too would not shoot it if it bedded down at say, 65 yards. The reason for this is there is a good chance (i would say 80/20)that it will not go 20 yds from that spot before dyingif left alone. If i spook or graze it with an arrow, then it might run much further, w/o a blood trail, and we all know what that could mean.

so basically, yea, its a case by case senario. the only second shot that i have made ( i missed another one [>:]) was at 32ish yards.

Exactly howI think about it. If you have already made a crappy shot, there is a good chance you could do it again, only makeing a longer tracking job.

Well, my question wasn't if you would take a second shot. My question was:

If you would attempt a second shot what is the maximum range you feel confortable shooting?

Perhaps you should start your own poll before you drag mine off track ;).

sorry, i started off my reply meaning to answer the question anyway:)

I think 'if' you should is more important than how far. You have to think about the shot and the results at any range. So, I think your poll is still on track.

I'll empty my quiver until the animal is either:

Dead

or

out of range

I have a 60 yd pin.

If the first shot is fatal and you can see where he stopped chances are he is not going far. Why chance sending him running off?? Unless I thought the first shot just wounded (brokend back, etc) him I would not shoot again at any distance.

60 yards...farthest pin....i owe it to the deer as an ethical hunter to take a second shot attempt.
