I bit the bullet.....HOYT

I was sitting there at the shop today talking to the owner, tweaking on the bow, and shooting some. The UPS man came bye and he got some new bows in. He opened one up and I was like WOW, a Left Handed one. It was a VectrixXL. I asked who it was for and he said it was for his partner in the buisness, but I could shoot it. I have been absolutely dying to shoot one. I helped him put everyhting on it and we took it to the range. Drew it back on 72lbs, it was stiffer than my Ross but not too bad. The wall was REALLY solid. It shot really good, I liked it alot. Just as I had said no more bows for me this year I'm already considering another. More than likely I'll just wait for the Cardiac to get here and use it for this year. Next year, that's a different story, Getting a Hoyt at cost would be pretty sweet. I might end up trading the 337 for it.

RE: I bit the bullet.....HOYT

Cougar,
I thought Andy and Angie Ross were hooking you up with that Cardiac?

Matt/TN 07-25-2007 07:36 PM

RE: I bit the bullet.....HOYT

Yeah the Cardiac is staying put.I meant the 337 but I like it too!I'm done buying bows for this year, I need to keep telling myself that.:D

Bows are too good these days. I think this Cardiac will be everything I'm hoping for, the only thing I don't like about teh 337 is the wall is a little spongy, but that is to be expected from a single cam.

Matt / PA 07-25-2007 07:39 PM

RE: I bit the bullet.....HOYT

Well if the Ross family isGIVING you a new Cardiac I probably don't have to bother typing the lengthy response I have in mind?

(Hoping the lightbulb flickers on there my man;))

Matt/TN 07-25-2007 07:41 PM

RE: I bit the bullet.....HOYT

Yeah I wouldn't get rid of it EVER. That Cardiac will be with me until it blows up. I didn't mean to say the Cardiac to begin with, the 337 would be the one to go.

Matt / PA 07-25-2007 07:44 PM

RE: I bit the bullet.....HOYT

Nevermind........you're missing the point.[&o]

Good luck with whatever bow you wind up shooting.

Matt/TN 07-25-2007 07:44 PM

RE: I bit the bullet.....HOYT

One of the guys who works there got his Vectrix XL Target bow in the other day and that thing looks SWEET. He got the blue and black one. It's one sharp looking bow. They come with the Silver cams too, Hoyt makes some good looking target bows too. I'll probably get a Hoyt next year assuming I'm still working there.

Cougs...

My shop owner bent over backwards to get me into a Bowtech. I can't tell you the "Deal" I got as a good friend and a good customer.

It wouldn't matter to me if I thought the new Mathews was the bees knees. Somebody went out and put a little faith in me.......did me a good deed. What kind of slap in the face would it be if I took the Bowtech back to buy the Mathews (or kept it and bought the Mathews for that matter)?

These guys give you good advice.

And if I was your shop owner.....I wouldn't sell you the Hoyt. I'd tell you to buy it somewhere else......along with the rest of your archery needs.

Matt/TN 07-25-2007 08:14 PM

RE: I bit the bullet.....HOYT

Like I just explained to Matt through a PM.

I have a 337 and soon to be a Cardiac. That's all the technology that Ross has to offer at the moment.

Next year when it comes time to get an 08' I would have to go to ANOTHER shop way out of my way to just look at them. If I were to buy one that betrays my shop, my JOB, that wouldn't go over too nicely with them, but then again I REALLY don;t want to betray the Ross's and I'm not going to. I haven't even made any efforts what so ever to get another bow, I just shot that one tonight and I said I liked it. I'm just between a rock and a hard place. Maybe if I keep the same bows for the rest of my life I'll keep everyone happy

As far as promoting Ross, how many times have I recommended them? How many posts in threads have I recommended them. I sit there in a HOYT and PSE shop and recommend Ross ALL the time. I get so many compliments on my Ross it's not funny. I was just plainly stating that I liked the Vectrix and was considering it as an OPTION. I see what you guys are saying but you have to see it from my shoes too. I'll have to think a little better before I post and the wrath of HNI jumps on me. I feel like Team Voidnow

We're just taking you for your word.....and you were stating pretty strongly you were probably going to get one (hoyt).

We're just reacting to the information you gave us. If you want us to know the whole story....tell us the whole story.

RE: I bit the bullet.....HOYT

Dude, you are SOOOOOO missing the flippin point....You haven't gotten your Cardiac yet, right?? So ask yourself this.....Ask yourself, then before you spout off at the hip, THINK about it a minute....

Andy Ross hear's that you are talking about, in an open forum, that you are thinking about a Vectrix....Notice I didn't say that you were saying good things about it.....But you are thinking about buying one, even if it is next year....... Now here's what you need to think about........If you were Andy........Would you ship that bow???

There's a difference in saying good things about a competitor's product in comparison mode.....It's another ALLTOGETHER to talk about buying one....

I can see where the Vectrix made you drewl......I have one, and I drewl every time I shoot it.....When you hold excellence in your hands, it's hard not to........BUT.........:D

Matt/TN 07-25-2007 08:26 PM

RE: I bit the bullet.....HOYT

Is the Vectrix in my possesion? No. So it's all just words, I have or I'm going to have EVERYTHING technology wise Ross has to offer. The fact I bought a Ross on my own says enough. It's hard enough to get that much money at 16 to begin with. I just said it was an option.

Matt, Andy is basically sponsering you buddy, andyou cant go against your sponsers, not even with words, as long as he wants to give you a bow, he is the one you need to support, keep in mind he promised you a bow before you took your new job.;)Just keep that in mind;)

Hunting season better get here soon. People are spending all their money on multiple bows when you can only shoot one at a time. A little likehaving a bunch of cars / trucks.

Maybe its time to go scouting or something......

Cougs, all anyone is trying to say is think about your loyalties. For me, and just for me, if someone were giving me a new and expensive bow, I would not be singing the praises of another brand on a public forum. I may fall in love with another brand and go out and buy one, but out of loyalty to a person that has been so kind to me I would keep my feelings for brand X to myself. On the other hand, if I were giving someone a new and expensive bow, and then read on a public forum that they thought enough about another brand to sing its praises and were considering buying one, well I would have to think that maybe they don't really need my bow.
Look out for the interests of your benefactor. By doing so you will be looking out for your own best interests. Are you familiar with the expression, "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth"?
If you want a different brand for different technology then go buy it. Just keep it under your hat.

You know, I have a hard time responding to threads on here sometimes. I just think people get a little too keyed up over "things". OK so Coug has Ross giving him a free bow. OK. Now, he shoots another bow and likes it. Cool. He speaks of "maybe" purchasing one he likes it so much. Now, If this were me, and it's not, I would have to wonder just how much this is gonna hurt Andy's feelings. Well, I guess you could look at it like this. Some of us "spend" $1000.00 or more each year on "the latest and greatest" bow out there and absolutely nothing is wrong with last years bow or the one from the year before. So, why do we do this? Status. Pure Status. I have to have what "he's" shooting, "she's" shooting, "they" are shooting. Oh the technology is so much better.(this is true in some instances) Well, I say poo poo. When you get the bow that's right for you. At least keep it for 3 to 4 years or more. Unless you just have to have the new toy on the block. You see, Coug has found a new toy, much like some here do every day. Do we honestly believe Andy has always shot Ross? I doubt that is where he started. Maybe someone "gave" him a new bow when he got started. Did he keep shooting it until he made Ross Bows? I doubt it. Is he still singing the praises of the bow that was given to him? I doubt that too. Although he may be still singing praises of the person who gave it too him. The bow is a piece of gear. The friend is a real live person with feelings. How long do we sing praises of the bow we shoot as compared to how long we sing praises to those who help us and are our friends? Man, what priorities are mixed up in this world. Coug works for a Ross dealer. He signs his check. Would you rather be loyal to those who have you by the payroll, or those who give a gift out of the goodness of their heart? I think both. If his employer is OK with him praising Ross in his shop, then I think Andy could be OK with him singing praises of Ross "and" Hoyt on an open Forum. If he (Andy) is not OK with this, then this speaks volumes about the "gift" he gave to Coug.

My 3c.

This is just my opinion but if you like the Ross bows and they are sponsoring you I wouldnt buy one from a competitor. Now if you didnt like the Ross bows, that is a different story andthen I couldnt blame you a bit for buying something else.

I wont shoot something I dont like no matter who makes it or how much or how little it costs me.

Hey LT.....

Ever wonder why we don't see Dale Jr. drinking a Miller Lite? Tiger wearing Pumas?

And...I buy a bow when I want to....and if and when I can justify the expense. What you or anyone else shoots concerns me not.

Rick James 07-26-2007 07:15 AM

RE: I bit the bullet.....HOYT

It's pretty much an unwritten (in some cases written) rule that when being sponsored by a manufacturer that you really need to be promoting and exclusively shooting their bows for that contract year. If for some reason something comes up such as employment with a shop that doesn't sell Ross...........then do one ofthree things. Work with your local dealer to get the Ross line in there (win in everyones POV),call Andy and explain the situation to him and that you feel that you cannot fulfillthe requirements of a good representative of Ross and that you wouldn't feel right about accepting a free bow from him, or bit the bullet and shoot the Ross for the rest of the contract/expected time from Ross.

Just MHO.......but because they were nice enough to make you an offer like this, then you owe them one of these three things.

Never miller lite, but I saw him testdriving a Porsche other day. He said he owned all Technology GM had to offer;)

Cougs loyalty is a dying art these days, I for the life of me can not understand why anybody who is getting a 700.00 bow for free would even think about another bow.

What do I know, Good luck in whatever you choose to do. It is 100% your choice.

LebeauHunter 07-26-2007 07:51 AM

RE: I bit the bullet.....HOYT

Echoing what Germ said, loyalty seems to be a dying character trait.

I've seen people leave their bosses who supported them through thin times just for a little more money.
People abandon their "friends" over one fight. It's part of the individualistic it's all about you culture
that has been building up. If you are the center of the universe then everything else is something
to be used to further your ends.

Allright, off soapbox, and not necessarily talking about you Cougs, just talking about a general decline
in loyalty (not to mention "manhood"). [:@]

Oh, and I don't think endorsements and sponsorships represent loyalty. They are a contractual
agreement to only use that product for which that person is paid. So I am not saying that I think
paid sponsors are necessarily "loyal."

mobow 07-26-2007 08:37 AM

RE: I bit the bullet.....HOYT

LT, I agree mostly with what you have to say.....But in this case, Cougs hasn't even GOTTEN the bow yet.....and he's already talking about buying a different one...If I were Andy (which thankfully I'm NOT) I would keep said bow and maybe give it to someone else......As far as getting a new bow every year.......What does it matter to you if someone does or doesn't? Have they spent your money? No, I think not, so why would it concern anyone if so and so buys a new bow every year? Maybe some can't afford it, maybe they just like the one they have and just don't want a new one.....Fine. But it's not status, my friend....It's not to look cool, hip, and all Hollywood......Folks get new bows every year first of all because they can, and secondly they enjoy it.

Lebeau,
