RE: I bit the bullet.....HOYT

ORIGINAL: Germ

Cougs loyalty is a dying art these days, I for the life of me can not understand why anybody who is getting a 700.00 bow for free would even think about another bow.

What do I know, Good luck in whatever you choose to do. It is 100% your choice.
I must agree with the majority here.........

Ross is going to send you a bow for free.......free. I can't remember how the whole thing started but I believe Andy and Angie caught wind of your plight for wanting a bow and having trouble comming up with the funds for one and after the course of a few weeks and e-mails Angie calls you to let you know that they were going to send you a free Cardiac once they are ready for shippment.

Then you start a thread here on HNIabout it, saying:

Well over the past few weeks I have been talking to Andy and Angie Ross through emails and pms on another site. I just talked to them and Angie said Andy has really taken to me and he told her to tell me that when the left handed cardiacs come out, Andy wants me to have one!! I was speechless, I didnt know what to do. They said itll be around 2-3 mos before the lefty's come out. I honestly dont think I will be able to sleep until I get that bow. I am trying to think of something I can do to show them how much I appreciate it. Andy said he just wanted some frozen backstraps and a picture of my first deer with it!!
If you are still trying to think of something you can do for them to show them how much you appreciate the gesture.....how about NOT talking about buying a different brand bow and how bout NOT saying that Ross has pretty much reached the end of technology for the moment with single cam bows!

Hell you haven't even received the bow and already you're saying:

That's all the technology that Ross has to offer at the moment.
Way to bite the hand that feeds you.

Cougs, From what I know of you and your posts I think you are a great kid and you have a very mature head on your shoulders for someone who is 16 years old BUT, you really need to take a step back and look at what you are doing here. What you have done is verbally slapped the face of Andy and Angie. They are willing to send you FREE OF CHARGE their top of the line bow for you to have and without even receiving it you have already thought about (and almost bought) a Bowtech and now your singing the praises of Hoyt.

I'd tell you whatI would do if I were Andy.......but I don't think you'll want to hear it.

I am very new to the site, but a long time hunter. I certianly dont was to beat a dead horse, but Coug you cant bite the hand that feeds you. As young as you are and to already have sponsors that is a dream come true. Alot of people would do anything to have the opportunity to be sponsored by a brand/brands. I would do anything to hunt for a living and to be sponsored, but I dont have any connections. You have a great opportunity dont screw it up kid. I thing I learn a long time ago is to never burn bridges or piss people off. Just be careful what and how you say things and you will always be good.

I think what is trying to be communicated here is that you can't walk both sides of the fence at the same time. I'm not sure this is your INTENT, but your APPEARANCE is thatyou are trying to take food from who ever will feed you.....

I'm also going to make an assumption that your shop owner is pressuring you a little because he doesn't, and can't, sell the Ross line up, would I be correct in that?

Me thinks this is where he was fed the "That's all the technology that Ross has to offer at the moment." statement from as well.

Sounds very much like what someone would say to a prospective (Ross in this case) "single cam" bowbuyer to try and persuadethem into buying a hybrid cam bow.......lets say......Hoyt for instance.;)

RE: I bit the bullet.....HOYT

GMMAT: The reason you don't see people wearing/drinking things other than their sponsors is because that is where their paychck comes from. I don't recall ever seeing where the Ross's were putting Coug on the payroll or sponsoring him. If I did, my mistake. That is kinda what I was getting at here:

Coug works for aHoyt dealer. He signs his check. Would you rather be loyal to those who have you by the payroll, or those who give a gift out of the goodness of their heart?
If status is not what it is about then it must be technology or everyone would still be hanging on to their old bows. This is exactly the point I was trying to drive home here. Cougs has a chance to shoot a Ross. Good. If he has the means to afford the Hoyt and "if" it is a better bow, so be it. Is anyone here trying to tell him what to shoot. Yes. Why? Because a good person did a good deed and gave him a bow. If someone gives me a 2007 Chevy truck and I have the means to buy a Corvette, am I gonna buy it? Probably not, because I am perfectly satisfied with the truck and I can find multiple other "useful" places for my money to go. That's just me though. Everyone is not like that. In fact, I would venture to say that most would buy the Vette and drive it more than the truck. (Unless it was hunting season of course.) And why would they drive the Vette more? Status. Who would not rather be seen in a Vette than a Chevy truck? Get my point?

And...I buy a bow when I want to....and if and when I can justify the expense. What you or anyone else shoots concerns me not.
Then why on earth does it concern anyone here if the young Cougs wants to buy a new/different bow?

As far as getting a new bow every year.......What does it matter to you if someone does or doesn't? Have they spent your money? No, I think not, so why would it concern anyone if so and so buys a new bow every year?
And again, sounds like the pot calling the kettle black to me. Why is everyone so concerned what he buys or does not buy. I willtell you why,it's because everyone thinks he should be loyal to the Ross's because they are giving him a gift. Like I said before, sponsorship is one thing.A gift is another. So what is the bow going to be Coug? A sponsorship or a gift? I wish Andy himself would chime in here to letus know how he feels about it. I would just about bet he would say it was all good with him as long as Coug didn't bash Ross. (End of technology)

My point Mobow is this is what is wrong with the world today. People can not just give a gift. They have to have something in return.Unconditionally givingloyalty is one thing. But asking for it by giving gifts is, well, what law enforcement calls Bribery. That is why sponsorships/employers have people by the nads today. Because when they give you something they "expect" something in return. The days of working "for" loyalty is almost gone. That is the way it should be. You work for me, I give you loyalty. I pay you at weeks end, you give me loyalty. That has nothing to do with giving gifts and expecting nothing in return.

LT,

While I see your point and agree with it to some extent, I'd like to turn the table and say "What's wrong with the world today" Everybody has their hand out and nobody want's to do the right thing.

To me THIS is what this thread is all about.....doing what's right. Talking about buying another brand bow and making statements about a companies technology limits, and I'm sure that statement is totally unfounded as I can't see how cougs or anybody other than the Ross familyand their R&D department know what the future holds for the Ross single cam bow line up, is NOT doing the right thing.

No LT, the problem is we live in an ever increasing "Immediate gratification society" and people take for granted the good deeds of others.

It's not like he's shot this bow for a year and is ready to see what else is out there, he hasn't even received it yet!!! Where's the gratitude???

It's just plain wrong.......someone needs to stand up and say it and (thankfully) there are many here who still see it that way.

LouisianaTomkat 07-26-2007 04:45 PM

RE: I bit the bullet.....HOYT

I agree completely BigJ12. That is why I inserted this statement into my post above.

I would just about bet he would say it was all good with him as long as Coug didn't bash Ross. (End of technology)
I still believe the bow is/was a gift to Coug. If that is/was the case then no handouts were "asked" for. To ask for a gift and to be given one is two totally different things. If I asked for a new truck and you gave me one, that, to me is a handout. If you showed up out of the blue on Christmas morning with a new truck because I hinted I could not afford one or you just knew I needed one, that is a gift. You would not expect me to give anything in return. If you did, you probably would eventually get your feelings hurt because I might win the Lotto and buy the Vette and drive it more. (But being who you are, I would buy you one too. LOL)

While I see your point and agree with it to some extent, I'd like to turn the table and say "What's wrong with the world today" Everybody has their hand out and nobody want's to do the right thing.
So, what is the "right" thing for Coug to do?

RE: I bit the bullet.....HOYT

LT, I hope we're not taking this as arguing, I actually find this pretty interesting.....

What's wrong w/ giving someone a gift? Absolutely nothing......BUT.....Do you not think Andy is wanting, in return, some "advertisement?" I would suspect so.....I would even suspect he asked cougs to do just that....

Pot calling the kettle black??? Hardly. I get a new bow every year because I am fortunate enough to work in an archery shop where all I need to do is trade up every year. It's good business for my shop owner, and I get a new bow out of it.....But let's understand that I had to BUY the first one......With my own hard earned cash......Did I get a discount? Yes. But I wasn't given a bow.......I had to buy it....

Do I think cougs should be able to buy a Hoyt if he wants? Absolutely. Should he be making it out to be better than a bow he was given and hasn't even gotten yet? Absolutely NOT... Hunting, in many ways, is a business now-a-days, and I'm not even gonna get started on that one, HNI doesn't have enough bandwidth.......But like it or not, folks are expected to "play the game" with such "gifts."

I go back to my previous......I would suspect cougs is under some pressure by his "boss" to shoot a bow they sell there.....And understandably so. But I think the mature, RIGHT thing to do would be to contact Ross and let them know things have changed, and that while the gesture is genuinely appreciated, it's no longer necessary, and please give the bow to someone who is in the place I was when this agreement was reached....

Matt/TN 07-26-2007 06:45 PM

RE: I bit the bullet.....HOYT

I don't know what to say to all this exactly.

As far as being pressured by my boss to shoot Hoyt, not so much. I have got him on the verge of buying a Ross for target. Would you call that advertisment on my part? I would. Me and him played around with it today and his exact words were, "You've got me wanting one of these, I bet I could drive tacks with this thing". Honest to God that's what he said. That's coming from a HOYT staff shooter. He is actually dying to get Ross into the shop but due to dealer agreements and a shop being about 20mi away, it's not possible at the moment.

I love my Ross, I absolutely LOVE it. Great bow, no handshock, quietest bow I've seen at the range yet. Ross IS and will REMAIN #1 in my book. Just because I was THINKING about a Hoyt, does that justify the 3rd degree from my fellow HNI'ers? Probably not. Everyone that comes into the shop asking about Mathews EVERY single worker there says, "If you're looking for a single cam bow, those Ross's are GREAT bows." That's the main reason I take my bow with me to the shop, is to show other people. When I actually go shoot it, all I hear from the other people is just how good it looks and just how quiet it is.

You guys are making it seem that I am betraying Ross's because I shot and was mearly THINKING about buying another bow. I have or will have 2 Ross's. To me that would indicate some brand loyalty, but obviously I am dumber than dirt and don't know anything.

I know they are giving me a bow and everything, but I just don't know how much longer my patience is going to go. I was told by Angie that they would give me a bow at the end of February. I recieved a call at from Mr.Mike Osbourn in May sometime. I was completely bowless from February until a week ago when I got the 337. How many of you guys think you could stand being perfectly healthy and not shooting for 5months? I have shot 1200 arrows thru that 337 in a week, I honestly can't get tired of shooting it. My plans were origanlly to only have the Cardiac, but it getting so close to hunting season I had to buy a bow.

As to my fellow HNI'ers, I think it's time for me to take some time off from this place. So guys, continue to flame away, I'm done posting in this thread and the forums for a little while. Have fun and Take care.

Bud, I was going to stay out of this thread mainly for the fact that everything I'm thinking has been summed up, but apparently you're still not reaching the point.

The bow is free.

You're paying zero dollars.

Not even shipping.

ZERO dollars.

If the bow comes after the '08 line-up is out and being purchased, you're still recieving a free bow.

Maybe tough love is what's needed here, and maybe I'd get a few glares for this, but here goes;

Andy and Angie took pity on you because you couldn't find a way to puchase a bow on your own. They felt sorry for a kid down on his luck and decided to cut him a break.

This kid is so excited that he becoms the #1 fanboy of Ross and starts talking them up before he's even got it. Great, fantastic, he's supporting the company who took pity on him and helped him out. However annoying it got, we all knew it was because they helped you out.

Now, months later, with the bow still not shipped, you've purchased a bow on your own, which you weren't able to do previously.

Wait.

What?

You purchased a bow on your own?

Isn't that why Andy and Angie were GIVING you one in the first place? Granted its manufactured by the same company, but you've just purchased one on your own which is something you said you couldn't do before.

Ok, so if you're wanting to purchase a Bowtech, fine. If you want a Hoyt, fine.

But if you plan on buying another bow, tell Andy and Angie to give your Cardiac away. You've purchased a bow on your own, you have the bow in your possession, yet you COMPLAIN that it hasn't been shipped.

Your priorities are way mixed up, my man.

Take some time out, think about whats been said, and maybe you'll realize these folks have a point.

YES, I bought a bow on my own. You know where the money came from? Working. I worked hard, and saved money. So what you're saying by this is that I SHOULDN'T have bought a bow and just quietly waited for the free one. Even if that meant missing bowseason? Bowseason here starts in about 50ish days. That about a month and a half. Ross has been saying 4-6 weeks for about 4-6 months. I once again had a decision to make, risk misssing bowseason or buy a "cheap" used bow.

I am NOT trying to sound like I'm complaining about the Cardiac's not shipping fast enough. You guys make it seem like I'm completely oblivious of the fact it's a FREE bow. I'm not stupid, I know what FREE means.

I bought the 337 just in case I didn't have the Cardiac in time for bowseason. Not because I WANTED another bow.

Upon purchase of the bow I would have contacted Andy and Angie and let them know that while I appreciate their generosity, I no longer required their bow.

No, what I am saying is that while you complained previously, you have found a way to earn the money and purchase your own bow. You no longer NEED the bow that Andy and Angie are giving you and yet you continue to complain that it has yet to be shipped.

Yes, you've had to wait.

Bummer.

I wish I had to wait for a free bow.
Yes I've had to wait but you can't honestly say that if you were in my shoes and you had no bow what so ever that you wouldn't get impatient. Think about that.
I would have, and I would have done the same thing you did.

Worked my ass off and bought my own bow.

Upon purchase of the bow I would have contacted Andy and Angie and let them know that while I appreciate their generosity, I no longer required their bow.

I would have asked if they knew of anyone else they could give it to and for them to go ahead and extend their generosity to that person.

But I guess thats the difference between you and I.
When they said they were giving me one it wasn't as much as me not being able to buy one. At the time when I first started talking to them, I had that Browning. So it wasn't the fact that I needed one but we met each other and they really liked me (unlike you guys it seems). So they said hey, shoot our bow, we are really for having youths into archery, and our own kids aren't big enough to shoot a bow yet. It was never the fact that I NEEDED one, they just wanted to give me one.

Well, if I personally came across that way, I'll apologize....those were not my intentions, of that I can promise you. And by the way, unless I were under contract......Yes, I would have told them to give it to someone who needed it.....

Ok, I'm done with this one.....Cougs, if I've upset you, I do apologize.....But I'm not a dummy either.....;)

Whatever, Coug.

Go take your break.

We've all said as much that we like you, you're just being thick headed about all of this.

If you honestly believe no one likes you here, you're mistaken. If you feel like you need a break because you can't take a dose of honesty once and awhile, see you around.

I was completely bowless from February until a week ago when I got the 337. How many of you guys think you could stand being perfectly healthy and not shooting for 5months?
I am still healthy now and still cant shoot a bow in August it will be 7 months.[:@]
