Default Leaving a stand in the woods

I'm thinking about leaving my summit viper in a tree this year and running some climbing sticks up to it. Do I need to worry about anything ruining the padded seat, the arm rests, or the plastic covering on the cables (that go around the tree)?

If you have squirrels? Yeah kiss all that stuff goodbye.

Seriously, they will chew on anything that is cloth, and will burrow a hole in your seat and steal the foam for their nests. I have one ladder stand that has a full sized foam seat.........at least it used to

(If you're really lucky you might even come in to your stand in the dark to find out they are LIVING in your seat.)

Anything that you can take off do it. Other than that I would put aratchet strap on it.

Leave it out for the season...ok.

Leave it out all year...not a good idea.

Cover your seat or if possible, take it with you. Squirrels are bad and it is no fun sitting all day long on a wet seat.

Prior to getting into your stand, pull down on it as hard as you can to make sure it can still hold your load. Sometimes these stands shift and/or have been damaged by something unforeseen.

Best of luck.

I would pull the seat. Id hate to see it get rewined.

This spring i roosted some birds and knew where i was going to set up in the morning so i left my backpack and seat out for the next morning. When i got there something (im not sure what) had chewed through all of it! The strap off my seat had been chewed through and my backpack was rewined!

Lesson learned the hard way!

Is this a climber or a hang on? If it the climber, no way. A hang on go for it.

I would not suggest doing this with your climber and would suggest that you spend the $50-100 or so on a less expensive, yet sturdy hang-on and put it up. Why run the risk of haivng your climber damaged?
