Default Ok, NOW I'm excited!!

So I headed to the woods this evening to retrieve my camera. I did get 3 pics of bucks which confused me a little....I said to myself, "What's that stuff growing out of those does' heads??"

Anyway, the exciting part.....I bumped a SLAMMER, and I mean SLAMMER buck out of his bed this evening. I walked to within 20 feet of that rascal, and he not gotten up I would never have known he were there. He really didn't know what spooked him though, he just looked around for a minute before trotting off.

Anyway, I guess the bucks still have around 6 weeks to grow, yes? This guy is an 11 pointer, with a very typical 10 point frame. Point 11 is courtesy of a 6" drop off his left G2, and has mass to kill. He's not very wide, maybe 18", but quite tall. His G2's were pushing 11", and while I was recovering from a serious case of the shakes I rough scored him in the upper 130's to low 140's.....With time to grow....

I learned more just by SEEING that buck this evening than I have in the last 3 years of hard hunting. I've been going about it ALL wrong.....I knew there was a buck using the area, though I didn't know he was that big, but I saw him in an area I hunt, thinking it is an evening feeding area.......WRONG! Bedding area, which compeletly changes the way I will hunt it.

Anyway, I gave thanks to God for even allowing me to see that beauty, and had a strange sensation come over me......I've never felt it before, I absolutely KNOW I'm gonna kill that buck. I don't mean that to sound arrogant at all, but have ya'll ever had that about something, anything? Not just about a kill, but anything? You just........KNOW it's gonna happen? Kinda weird I know.........Man, I don't think I'm gonna sleep tonight, I'm all kinds of fired up now! Wish I had a pic of him to show, but he didn't step in front of my camera.

Nope, camera isn't going back out. I literally grabbed the camera and got the heck outta dodge. I actually checked it on the walk back to the house. I'm not stinkin that place up any more.

He was actually bedded under one of my trees I hunt in.....So I've been in the right spot, just wrong time and wrong approach. He's definetly gotten me rethinking some things. The way I walk to the stand, the time of day I hunt it, where I park my truck, EVERYTHING......No joke, that taught me a TON....

The pics I got are pretty grainy, but I'll edit one of the buck shots I got and post it up here in a few...

sounds like a goodun. best of luck in the pursuit.

my buddy told me about 2 definent shooters in one of my spots he seen spotting this week. one was a 16" or so wide nice 8(not a monster but a legal shooter and id probably mount him being my first bow kill and decint buck) and the other he said was a monster. this is a kid that dont call many bucks monsters. said it made the 16" wide buck look like a scrub and they were standing side by side. i dont go spotting. i let my buddies do it for me. they know my areas and know they cant hunt them, but tell me when and where they see the gooduns. i dont like to see them because i will drool and get my hopes too high. bucks like that are farrrr from dumb around here. anything over 1.5yo is smarter than me..but im going to try my best...thats just one of my spots and just what he seen one nite...

cant wait...im already having dreams....

OK, now you have to find a way to survive the next 2 months not being able to hunt him. That's gonna be tuff. Sure hope you get him figured out and bag that monster. MO'S-GONNA-KILLA-BUCK!!!

By the way, when did you say we were going to hunt together down there? You know, so I can help you drag that big boy out of the woods.

Mo feel proud I haven't had a buck picture on trail camera in a month. I have seen them out riding around in the fields but nothing in my hunting territory.
