Drury boys

They've gone over the edge in their attempt to "Beat the other guy". It's become a soap opera. They find all these couples and pit them against each other. Now they have a separation of one of the couples and make a big deal of it on the show. I tell you, it's not hunting, it's not what hunting is... it's a dang three ring circus. I'd rather see an ugly fat guy shoot a 3 pointer with a cross bow. Where oh where did they feel the need for this crap. They're going to loose their audience if they keep up this garbage of "Made for TV Hunting". They started with hunting and doing it their way. Now it's shooting with people who have a hard time pulling back a bow. This one girl tonight missed the mark on an antelope by a good 3 feet at about 30 yards. She did hit the next one 20 seconds later at 15 yards. Target rich enviornment for sure. Not much hunting going on.... just show time.

Thanks man! I have it on tivo. haven't seen it yet :) I want the ny woman to just go away all together. I have to agree w/ you on all counts. I love drury video's but I don't care for dream season. Yet I still watch it, go figure.

I think the show will be funnier this year because of the wives. The girl that missed the antelope told her husband to quit filming and I think she was about to cry. But I do have to say she smoked the second antelope. The Wildlife Obsession show I think is more of a hunting show. Tonight they had a guy drop a buck with a muzzleloader that was five yards away. Coolest shot I have ever seen. Needless to say he didn't have a very hard tracking job.

Not a big fan of Dream Season either... But I do like the Wildlife Obsession show.
Even their videos are "dramatic" now.

Our power went out last night and I missed the show, my DVR of course didn't get it either..........

I would have to say I somewhat agree as well. I still like the Drury's but the competition is pushing these people to do things that normally wouldn't happen. Look at Team PA last year in Oklahoma, that outfitter was really PO'd about that small deer, and they even said about some of the deer they shot that year that they normally wouldn't have killed that buck, but they wanted to get one down for the camera.

I will still continue to watch the show, but would like to see them change it up quite a bit. I still love their DVD's and Wildlife Obsession though.

**begin rant**

Not sure where all this husband and wife business started, or when it became fashionable to drag your old lady or a clueless toddlerout to the deer woods with you, but that's not my bag. (There's a time and place for it - scouting, hiking, shed hunting, small game, etc...)

My time in the woods is the only time I can get away from women, honestly. Nothing against anyone's wife or whatever, but if my buddy says his old lady is coming along, I'm out. ...And I sure as heck don't want to blow my spare time watching some bumbling chick or 7-year-oldon tv screwing around trying to learn how to hunt. If I wanted to see that trainwreck, I'd just tag along with my buddy while he parades his wife through the woods in turkey season trying to teach her how to be the next Tiffany Lakosky.

Now I'm not saying that there aren't women or 7-year-oldsout there who can carry their own weight (I'm sure there are), I'm just saying that I've never seen one - not on tv, not in real life. Hell, mostgrown mencan't carry their own weight in the woods, and have no clue what they're doing.

When I sit down to watch a hunting show, I don't wanna see a soap opera, or see some schmuck prove that he is hunting in a pen that's so thick with deer that he can put a totally clueless chick in a blind, and even SHE can tag a booner. No - I wanna see people who know what they're doing, doing what they're good at.

**end rant**

I stopped watching Dream Season awhile ago. I still watch Wildlife Obsession. I like the Drury's but they don't make videos like they use to like Monster Bucks 2,3 or Whitetail Madness 1,2. Those were great videos because it was like them telling a hunting story..just my .02!

RE: Drury boys

Quick....

Sir....That mirrors my way of thinking to a "t".

I think it's important to give kids and women the avenue to pursue hunting and the outdoors if they so choose......but deep down.....I'm glad my wife stays home and has no interest in being out there with me. She doesn't want to be there, hunting......and I like that. She wants to go turkey hunting.....and I'll take her with me......but she has no desire to hunt, herself. I love that she doesn't hunt.

As far as my son is concerned......I provide him with the equipment, the grounds and the means to be able to hunt. If he doesn't want to....I don't feel like I've failed. Like myself.....maybe it'll become important to him later in life (to the extent it has, me). Maybe not. When and if he takes his first bow deer ........it'll be because HE put forth some effort. It won't be because he half-assed it. I've done my part. It's up to him if he wants to pursue bowhunting.

A simple show filming deer hunting in the woods, with the shot/recovery scenes would go along way. I agree, it is getting kind of stupid at this point.

Nice to hear many others had the same thoughts I did last night when suffering through this soap opera. I thought the one Drury brother was going to become Dr. Phil for a moment. One thing, though: the miss on the antelope was apparently some sort of deflection. I ran it back in slow motion a couple of times. The arrow may have hit something on the way out of the blind. This happened to me back in April while turkey hunting.

My thoughts exactly. I posted a similar opinion elsewhere and got seriously flamed...but it is my opinion that hunting is not a soap opera with manufactured drama, or who is mad at whom for not getting out of bed on time, or taking someone into the woods who has no idea what they are doing (or worse who has no appreciation for what they are doing) or "what's in the prize stash". Hunting is not a competition or a cheap made for tv movie. FWIW, I don't watch it any more. Flame away...;)

Agreed...things I don't want to see:

guys sleeping in their bunks who have to be awaken by fellow hunters
guys arguing with their hunting buds or coping attitudes
fabricated drama of any kind, including annoying music during hunts
guys playing guitars
guys talking on cell phones
guys eating breakfast before their hunts
guys pumping gas on the way to their hunt
guys riding in pick-ups on the way to their hunt
guys playing practical jokes on other guys, etc.

What I do want to see:

time in the woods scouting
quick explanations about why a certain hunting spot was chosen
quick explanation of the strategy employed
quick menu of gear used
hunting
hunting and
most specifically, bowhunting
shot impact
possible tips for tracking
nice views of the collected trophy, possibly including scoring information (can be helpful when field judging both rack and age)

These are just a few things that come to mind. Call me old fashioned, but I don't watch any reality tv either...it has no place in hunting for me. Best regards...;)

This is getting off the subject a little. But I heard the other day when shooting at the archery range that the Drury boys might leave Hoyt. Rumor has it that PSE is willing to throw down some serious money to get them after losing Primos to bear archery. Any one else hear any thing like that? I was wondering if it was true?

I don't watch their stuff,I don't even know the names of their programs. What ever it was that had hunters pitted against one another in competition struck me as crap when I watched it,I do not like things that are contrived, like others have said the manufactured drama.Keep it real!
I don't have a problem with women hunting at all,I deer hunt alone so it wouldn't matter what gender the person is they wouldn't be with me.For me it is a matter of independence,(not that their shouldn't be understanding and patience as someone is learning) If a person, man or woman is independant and can be involved with hunting while not diminishing my experience that is fine with me.

For the record, I don't watch it anymore. I think what we are trying to say is that this is a bigger issue than just the Drury show (correct me if I am wrong David). This focus on overdramatizing, reality tv stuff is seeping into other shows as well...ones that used to just focus on hunting. Goofy banter, practical jokes, playing music during hunts, contrived drama, etc. is completely unnecessary. If watching a big buck approaching your stand does not get you excited without all that, than maybe hunting shows are not what you are looking for. Just my .02. ;)

Jeff Probst(I think thats how you spell his name) who is on the Drury team and also happens to work for Hoyt posted on Kisky.com that the Drury's have talked to PSE about switching bow brands but no decisions have been made yet, so as of right now they are still shooting Hoyt..

Ratings, ratings, ratings = BIG $$$$. These guys are geniuses they figured out how to turn what we look for in simple deer huntingshows. In to a multi-million dollar profit for themselves. They wouldn't even be talking to multiple bow companies if they weren't succeeding like they are. I hate to say it but everyone that has responded in this thread has watched that show and whether you liked it or not you still tuned in for a short period of time because of the hype. Guess what that equaled ratings. Also all the people that talked about the soap opera part of the show. That was at the end of the show, which means you watched the hole show!

[/align]So, I guess what you are saying is that voicing one's opinion equals whinning. Hmmm...Sorry, I missed the purpose ofa "forum" then. This is usually the defensepeople take when they can't think of any intelligent to say...call someone a name. I don't think we're cry or whining so much as we're expressing a dislike of a good thing going bad. I don't watch them exactly. I TIVO them, fast forward through the commercials or hunts I don't want to see. That way you can watch a show in about 6 minutes.[8D] I think the crap could be replaced by good info, scouting, REAL blood trailing and not a camera watching some guy come to his deer and acting surprised. Put a measuring tape on stands and show them how high they are and why. I'd much rather the time be filled with info like that than fabricated fist pumping and "That's what I'm talkin' 'bout" or having some dud declare his hauty lady has dumped his butt.
