What have you found Hunting?
What is the neatest or most interesting thing or item you have found when you went out Hunting?
Mine was what I found last year when we planted a Food Plot on the back side of our Ridge Field about 60 yards out from the woods where my ladder stand is!It was an Indian Arrowhead....pink and white in color with a small black tip.I had a friend make me a wooden arrow shaft and I am going to sand it down smooth, put some real life feathers on it and paint it with some kind of design and mount the arrowhead on it and place it across one of my Buck mounts to show it off.Whats really cool is that some Indianhad use that arrowhead and lost it in the ground where it has been hidden away for many many years and now I'm Bow Hunting that same area where they had hunted with much older primative equipment that what we havenow! |
RE: What have you found Hunting?
At the risk of sounding hella gay.......The best thing I have found while bowhunting is myself. A person wanders through this life for a good many years sometimes trying to find out who he really is......I found that 25 feet up in a tree, with a bow hanging next to me. I don't know, maybe it's because God and I can spend some time together there......But whatever it is, that's the deal.

I went out spring gobbler hunting one day and found a pinkish white seashell on the top of a mountain. Not too sure how it got there but it was a pretty cool find. |
RE: What have you found Hunting?
I never really found anything too wierd while hunting but my cousin did a few years ago in Juniata county outside of mifflintown. He was out turkey hunting one year and noticed a guy leaning up against a tree so he went to walk around him but thought something seemed odd. He decided to check on him and saw that he was dead as a door nail. We got back to camp to meet Bradand there was a note that read. "Found a dead guy out by the pipeline. Showing the police where he is, the beer's in the fridge...Brad". Here the guy emptied his bank account, drove out into the woods and put a rifle under his chin. He had $5,000.00 bucks in his pocket and the police said they searched that entire area months prior with dogsand never found him. Sounds to me like they need new dogs.

mobo.....God and I commune less than we should....and that's all my fault. We make up for lost time in the Fall. I'm already looking forward to it.
I found this tree just a few yards from where one of my '06 deer fell. Don't ask me why......I just think it's magnificent. ![]() |

I find that I usually feel much closer to God after a nice, quiet, reflective hunt in His woods than I ever have after leaving church on Sunday morning. |
RE: What have you found Hunting?
We purchased our land 5 years ago and while plowing up ground for our food plots, I also found an arrow head. I think it is the coolest thing Ive ever found in the woods. On a state land I once found an old glass bottle labeled Warners Safe Kidney and Liver Cure. I still have both these items.

RE: What have you found Hunting?
Jeff -
Think that tree is trying to tell you something????;) |
RE: What have you found Hunting?
Jeff, that tree is hung. I didn't know there were stud oaks in NC.;)
I don't know about finding many cool things, but my one spot is near a bit of an "urban" environment, so it's not uncommon for me to find some burned out cars, a cigarette machine, a broken motorcycle, some couches, and other various odd objects littered in the woods. |
RE: What have you found Hunting?
while out scouting some of our property in northern illinois, me and my dad stumbled across a rifle, but not just any rifle, we took it to the local gun smith and had him research it and come to find out it was a rifle from ww2, so we had him completely refinish the gun to working order, me and my father both shot the gun once apiece and hung it above my first deer i harvested off that piece of property, its an awesome thing to be out with nature and i agree with you guys, the outdoors is the reason im still here, i was headed down a bath path in my younger years, and my father kept pushing for me to get involved, so i did and everything i have to this day i owe to my father and the great outdoors.....kinda cheesy but honest

RE: What have you found Hunting?

RE: What have you found Hunting?
The best thing I found so far and probably will be the best findI ever have was a buck knife thatI had lost 2.5 years ago. I field dressedmy deer I had just shot and was hauling him out when I had lost it. The knife was a gift to me from my father about 15 years ago. It had field dressed every deer I had ever taken and was very speacial to me. I found it while shed hunting this spring. It was still as sharp as the day I lost it. Looks good as new after cleaning it up. Buck makes a heck of a knife.
Other things that my family has found while hunting: a side by side shotgun that is just a piece of very very rusty iron now. It was probably lost well over a hundred years ago. A indian skinning knife, several arrow heads, a very cool and big indian stone hammer that has a deep grove in it caused by the rope that held a handle on it wearing the stone away. several 50 cal. casing. I guess the gunners in WWII era planes used to use the surrounding buttesfor target practice. Several interesting finds as well. The is a long string of buttes just to the north of our farm. Every spot where spring water can be found coming out the side of the buttes, a pile of stones can be found at the top of the butte very close to the water. These stone markers can be seen for miles. The indians must have put the markers there. Ther is one lone buttes that sits all by itself that has bunker type things built on top of it. I think there are at least three of them. They are shallow holes dug into the ground with rocks piled up all around the hole. Not sure if the indians or the French builtthese. There are three graves at the base of this butte right next to an old covered wagon trail. two are adult sized and one is a child. The only had wagon spokes and a pile of rocks on top as markers. There was a cave that had French names and dates carved into it. The cave collasped before I could see it. There is also two indian cemetaries that still have grave robbers once in a great while. A tol of interesting indian things are found in our area. The indians still has pow- wows and sun dances every week around here and on the reservation that is only an hour away. One of there pow-wow grounds in just a few miles away from our farm. |
RE: What have you found Hunting?

RE: What have you found Hunting?
brother and i were on top or a ridge scouting. we saw something shiny next to a rock so we went over and found this tin box wrapped in a plastic bag. we opened it to find out it was a GPS game. where people post cordinates of its location and then they travel from all over to find it. once they find it they put something in the box and re-hide it. It had a journal dating back for a while.

RE: What have you found Hunting?
Oh and 1 time we found a campsite on our property that looks like the people vanished. The stuff was kind of rotted but it was all thier, cooler, tent, sleeping bags, clothes, un-opened pop cans.....kinda weird?
|
RE: What have you found Hunting?
That is weird.
|
RE: What have you found Hunting?
I found a bag of rock cocaine one time. Me and my friend figured that the people hid it there on purpose so we threw it in this one swamp. It was a huge bag too; it was one of those Ziploc freezer bags.

RE: What have you found Hunting?
i always like to stumble across old foundations and homestead sites etc...farily common...and easy to spot just by the trees and vegitation and such alot of the time..just kinda neat to see and say hey...someone lived there a lonnnng time ago...just gotta keep an eye out for the old wells and stuff...just because they are covered dont mean they are full and you cant fall in them!!
ive found and seen alot of other things out there but nothing too out of the normal.. did find a guys debit card once in a creek...his car was broken into a couple years prior...his card was probably ditched in a street drain and washed down the creek.. found a really nice swiss army knife when i was little with dad. sitting in the freezing cold creek. snow was just thawing. we were turkey scouting...no footprints in month old snow...took a month of so of oiling but it works and i still got it...man i must been 5 or 6... also like to find old arrows....always makes you wonder...how old are they? whose is it?? did they miss? pass through? wounded deer died there and never found and just the arrow remains?? what did the habitat look like then?? what direction did the target(deer usually) come from?? i used to collect them...but eventually they resembled a pile of junk that i never did anything with... lots of neat stuff out there if you look.... |
RE: What have you found Hunting?
I've Found just random stuff like old treestands, cans wheels and this one time i was walking around on state land and found a pot plant not 50 yds from a road. oh yea, i found a bow and treestand but then soon a hunter came up claiming it after cause he had to go take a #2

RE: What have you found Hunting?
I found a side of my father I have never seen before. Which makes it even harder to be away from him.
|
RE: What have you found Hunting?
I was walking back to my truck, after a morning hunt, along the edge of a field that had been disced. I looked down and there was the blade of a tomahawk staring up at me. It had been hit by the blade of the disc but it was intact and really cool.
Found a pic. ![]() |
RE: What have you found Hunting?
best find i ever made was walking up on a old perfectly intact arrowhead. then found another not 50 yards away cracked in half. the weirdest part is that they were both on a cattle trail that i have walked hundreds of times before without noticing them. amazed me that the one wasnt craked from a cow steppin on it yet.

RE: What have you found Hunting?

RE: What have you found Hunting?
You Guys have found some really neat stuff......well except finding the dead guy leaning against the tree!Man that would freak me out "ZOINKS"!!!
My Brother In-law lost his brand new cell phone while discing one of our food plots......every time he disc the plot up to plant something new we walk the field looking for the phone! LOL I did find a horse shoe in the same plot,a bent piece of metal rebar and several pieces of broken parts off a very old style plow.My Father In-law lost his billfold while plowing his lower field and 2 years later he was planting in the same field and found his old billfold. |
RE: What have you found Hunting?
I found an arrowhead while hunting in Mississippi. That was pretty cool.
|
RE: What have you found Hunting?
I've found arrow heads and such. Found some pot plants on state land that were over 8ft tall.
Never found anyone dead or anything like that. Talk about a find. I also like to find old foundations and wonder what it was like back then. What the house looked like. How the people lived that far in the woods. |
RE: What have you found Hunting?
While hunting Antelope in MT a few years back on BLM land I found a buffalo skull. I had dropped down into a deep cut bank creek and while trying to put the sneak on the Antelope I noticed a horn protruding out of the bottom of a 20 ft ledge. I marked the spot and after shooting and collecting my antelope I went back and recovered the skull. Imagine finding something buried 20 feet under the prairie and how long it had been there. Several hundred years or maybe a thousand years…who knows. When I left MT to go live in England I gave it to a friend of my wife’s who was a sculpture and he made a bronze of it and gave it to use as a going away gift…a great reminder of our time in MT.

RE: What have you found Hunting?

RE: What have you found Hunting?
I don't know, maybe it's because God and I can spend some time together there That sure isn't GAY! It is why alot of us hunt. To spend time with GOd and his creations. I'm proud that you weren't ashamed you post that. Most people shy away from things like that even if they feel like you do. |
