RE: Anybody see "Closing the Distance", last night?
Jeff,
I saw that last night! Now, keep in mind that I've not yet bowhunted. I was watching this (yes, my MIL was watching it too) and I was sure he was going to wait. When he took the shot, I couldn't believe it. I was taking all that I've read on here and thinking that this guy would wait for the better shot. |
RE: Anybody see "Closing the Distance", last night?
LC...trust me....I thought he'd wait, too.
When he shot I said "OMG", out loud. I couldn't believe it. |
RE: Anybody see "Closing the Distance", last night?
That reminds me of the time Stan Potts shot a nearly 200" in the neck. The deer was quartering to heavily, they panned away when he released. When Stan recovered the deer you could see a hole in the deer's neck. I guess I didn't expect something like that from 'Give me a Second!'. I'd have a ton more respect for him if he'd have passed on that shot.
Anyway, I've never seen this show you all are talking about. Must not be on the outdoor channel? |
RE: Anybody see "Closing the Distance", last night?
I know what you mean. I actually said "I can't believe it" out loud. My MIL didn't get it, so I had to explain to her why it wasn't a wise choice. Still, I wonder what will happen to me if I find myself in that situation my first time out. Will I have the composure to hold at full draw and wait? If the buck stays in that position too long, will I pass on the shot and let down knowing I'll get busted?
I will admit one thing. I knew when the buck turned to run, he was a dead deer. That shaft was protruding from his upper back and that broadhead had to be doing a number inside him as he ran. Still doesn't make it a good choice, though. |
RE: Anybody see "Closing the Distance", last night?
No one can tell you what you'll do LC. That's entirely up to you. Do you think he had a shot, though?
I knew the deer was dead, too. To me, that doesn't justify the shot selection. I think someone aleady said it's one thing to MAKE a bad shot.....but an entirely different thing to TAKE one. |
RE: Anybody see "Closing the Distance", last night?
I don't know if I should be more shocked at the shot, or that your wives watch hunting shows with you. My wife usually watches about 30 seconds before she looses interest and leaves or starts talking about crapI don't care about.

RE: Anybody see "Closing the Distance", last night?
Jeff,
Don't misunderstand me, please. He had a shot, butit was a bad one; one that everyone I've learned anything from on this site would say to pass on.I just hope that when the pressure's on, I remember what I've learned. |
RE: Anybody see "Closing the Distance", last night?
That is one of the few shows I like to watch and me and my wife were watching it last night. When he made the shot I said that was a horrible shot out loud and my wife asked why. I explained to her what a low % shot it was. And then the " I think I clipped a lung" remark was just sad. Typically on that show they show a lot of stuff I like to see, like they did last night about where to put stands and why, stuff like that. But that shot was horrible. To Matt Moore's (he's the main guy) credit he said, when talking to this guy, "I didn't think you would take that shot but you did anyway" (something like that). They have shown another bad shot on that show but, at least then, the shooter said it was a bad shot and maybe he shouldn't have taken it (doesn't excuse it but at least he admitted it).

RE: Anybody see "Closing the Distance", last night?
I am not sure if this was stated or not, but you have to remember that usually the camera angle is different then the shooters angle. I know the guys from Closing the Distance and they are all ethical hunters. I have not seen that particular episode and can not say for sure about the shot. But before everyone gets bent out of shape it could just be a different angle from the shooter. And the shooter could of had a legitmate shot and made a bad one... we all have been there.
