Again, 16 times just sounds cruel.
Why not shoot for the brain pan on that thing? A head shot would probably have been the most humane (and if you miss you could hit the neck or spinal cord).

If the dad and the guide did indeed have rifles they should have finished it off after the .50 cal was unloaded the first time.
