Just found this over on AT. Sounds like it was a canned hunt for a fat pig used to eating canned goods!

I smelled a rat with that story. Knew it had to be a tame/domesticated animal - otherwise, who lets their 11-year-old kidgoe toe-to-toe with a vicious,half-tonwild animal? With only a revolver...

What sucks is this is going to end up coming out bad for hunting. There was so much media attention around this thing...and now its going to be portraited as a couple of rednecks shooting swine behind the barn. I kinda hate it for the kid, I think his bubble is about to get burst and thats gonna be real tough for him. I suspect the outfitter may well get sued.

Was thinking same thing. No way this thing looks good for hunters.
It is so over the top that it will stay in the news.
It also plays up all the bad stereotypes of hunting.
As much as we say we don't care, non-hunting city-slickers (who don't really have the ability to understand hunting) do vote and those people they vote for make laws.

I do feel sort of sorry for the kid. Think about if you were that young and impressionable and your dad took you on this hunt and you thought you killed the world's largest hog. It is his dad that set this up, played up the publicity, made the website, etc. Any fallout should be on him.

whats wrong with canned hunts? I love them. specialy if they have the deer tied up. can get close for a good shot don't have to track. jk i would never do a high fence hunt. not even for an exotic

I think the owner of the place told the dad that the hog was wild when he knew it was a domestic animal. Poor Fred. He was bought by the owner as breeding stock and look what happened to him.

I wonder if they uesed an eletric can opener as bait. Fred herd the classic sound of dinner being opened, and he came in on a string.
