I personally don't think brace height is that big of deal as long as you are not getting slapped in the arm by the string. I think Axle to Axle and Reflexed risers are a bigger problem.

Or being over bowed. Many draw more weight than they should or fudge their draw length in order to gain speed, which makes your bow much harder to shoot well.

My thoughts completely, Paul. Brace height is highly overrated by the manufacturers because many of them have been selling bows marked incorrectlywith DL for too many years.

How is brace height measured? How does a shorter brace height increase the errors?

It makes the powerstroke longer. Means you have to hold the bow steadier longer. If you yip, the yip is "more" because the arrow is on the rest longer than a bow with a long BH

BH is measured from the back of the grip to the string I think

Anyone shooting 2" groups at 60 yards should turn pro immediately!

jsasker,

I was wondering if I was the only one that caught the 2" at 60 yards "Not great, but not bad" comment. No need to play up the false modesty if actually shooting that. [:-]

I haven't even worked my way to trying to shoot that distance. Working on consistent 3" groups at 30 yards is plenty of work for me right now.
I just went through and looked, 2'' at 60 yards I am calling BS[:-]

I agree with GMMAT, a heart shot could turn into an ugly double lung shot with that error margin. Dude you need to keep practicing and not enter the deer woods again until you can bring that margin down to 1/2 inch at sixty yards. Do it for the sake of the animal man.

I have a short draw length - only 26-1/4". I'll never have a bow that shoots super-crazy fast as this is the biggest thing holding me back.

IMO - a slow bow with an operator that knows his limitations and yardages will be more sucessful than a guy who buys a fast bow thinking he can shoot farther and "more accurate" - the ol' arrow drop argument.

I think WAY too much emphasis is put on speed. I only shoot about 260 fps (at 70 lbs.), with a purposely heavy arrow, and large cutting diameter mechanical head. My arrows fly straight, and where I aim. To me, that is the only thing that matters - hitting that spot you aim at.

With that being said, generally speaking, the slower the arrow - the more forgiving the set-up. The faster the arrow speed, the more difficult it becomes to control. Not saying they're aren't guys that are shooting 300+ fps with fixed heads out to 100 yards consistently, but I'm not that good. In my opinion, a good hunting set-up takes forgiveness and accuracy far before speed. A whitetail will jump the string on any bow - so IMO that argument holds no argument!

Yeah I agree, 2inch group at 60 yards is a load of crap. Im not a pro by any means, but I am a pretty good shot. There is no way on gods green earth that I could consitantly shoot 2inch groups at 60yards. I can hit a 4inch dot at 50 consistantly but thats a little different. I shoot dots about the size of a golfball at 30 all the time. If by chance there is anyone out there who can shoot 2inch groups consistantly at 60yards, well your just the god of archery.:)
