Life is precious. I too recently had a reminder of this.

One of the properties a friend and I have permission to hunt was owned by a well-to-do business man that had made his money in a self-start up company. He has a wife, 2 daughters, a son, and two dogs that liked to "join" us while we were hunting, although one recently passed. Last fall we did not hunt that property because we found out that Jim had terminal cancer. He had been having back problems and figured it was just a part of mid-life aches. He got it checked out and the tumor had gotten so large it broke his spine. He passed several months ago, and while I did not know the family well enough to attend the funeral, my friend did and he said that everyone spoke very highly of Jim and all of his colleagues said he was the "leader in his field." He leaves behind a wife and 3 pre-adolescent children.

The kicker is Kathy, just having lost her husband, asked why she hadn't seen us hunting last year and asked if we'll be back this year. I don't care if I shoot a deer or not off that property, but I will be there just knowing it means something to her.

Whew.......I got a little nervous as I read through that. Wasn't quite sure where it was heading.[:-]

Glad it had a happy ending!
