For hunting only, How do you guyshave your pins set? I only have 3 pins on my Tomkat. Should I set them at 20,40,60? Or should I order some more pins and set them at 20,30,40,50,60? Thanks in advance for the advice!

well since you shouldnt be shooting past 40 yards, you dont need anymore than 3 pins. i only use 2. one at 20 and one at 30. on my bow if the shot is less than 20 it will work with the 20 pin.

This wasn't an ethics question on how far I should or shouldn't shoot. I just want to know how some of you guys are setting your pins. Thanks

i know it wasnt an ethics question, but there isnt any reason to have a pin back to 60 if you are not going to shoot that far.

I set my pins up at 30, 40, 50, 60, and 80. Will I take the 80 yard shot at an animal, nope, but I will practice at that range daily and be able to shoot a follow-up shot should the critter decide to give me a chance. Having the long pin and practicing at that range makes the 60 and under shots simple. Shooting at the ultra-long ranges (80-100 yards) forces shooting form to the front on every shot with no exceptions.

Most of my shots have been between 20 and 30 yards. I have 3 pins and had them orriginally at 20, 30, 40 but now I have them at 20, 25, 30. Perhaps I only need 20 and 30 but it is what I got used to.

But I really can't put two pins at 20 and 25, they would be too close. On fast bows I don't see a lot of difference between 10 and 25 yards. I'm working my way to a 20 yard pin and a 30 yard pin for hunting. Since I have a 3 pin, I will set up the last one for around 38/40, but that is mostly just for fun when shooting. I can see setting it up at 20 / 30 /35, but 20 /25 /30 just seems real tight.

When I had a 3 pin sight they were set at 20 / 30 / and 40 yards. When I wen to a 5 pin sight they were set at 20 / 30 / 40 / 50 / and 60 yards. I used the 50 and 60 yard pins on the range only. I used to spend a lot of time practicing at 40 - 60 yards. I ruined way too many arrows at 20 and 30 yards.

I use 3 pins at 20 , 30, and 40 works for me . I don't think i could get the pins tighter if i wanted in between yardage anyway

No I don't think that you are rude at all. Like I said it's just what I've gotten used to. I have my bow set for where I hunt which is fairly thick even with my shooting lanes cut. Where I have my most successful stand set there is a deer trail that cuts one lane at 25 yards and twolanes they cross at 30 yards. Like I said it's what I got used to and feel comfortable with. I'm sure we all have our oddities.
