Default Bear hunts

I have always wanted to do one. I have never been on one and they are not in my area of the country(Texas). Where should one think of going for a first time bear hunt and how much should a bear hunt cost. I'm not looking for a do-it-yourself type of hunt. I think for a first time hunt, I really would like to go with some well experienced guides on a set up with bait. Hunting with dogs doesn't seem to interest me much but I can see how that could be some fun to.

So, I guess my question is, what part of North America is a really good area for bear hunting and what time of year? Also anyone know any good outfitters for such a hunt. After I get one bear hunt experience under my belt, I might be tempted to go with some friends to do such a hunt but I haven't got any friends that do bear hunts. They mainly hunt whitetails and mule deer and ducks. I really want to just do something different. I guess I'm getting bored with just hunting whitetails every year. I kind of want to try something else. I'm not sayig I wouldn't want to ever hunt whitetails again but I think there is just a point in my hunting career that I want to really try hunting something different and a black bear seems to be it.

Alberta, Canada is a great place to hunt Black Bear. I went there a few years back and saw lots of bears while on stand. Plus in Alberta you can kill 2 bears per year. Right now would be a great time to be there. The bears are just coming out of hibernation and looking for anything to eat. The outfitter we went with is no longer in business and I don't know what they are getting for a hunt anymore. I went in 2000 so I am sure it has gone up from the $3000 we paid.

Being a Texan myself and sharing your interest in a bear hunt I have looked into Arkansas and New Mexico. As much as I would love to go to Canada to hunt a bear, it seems my budget is much more suited to one of our friends next door.
