to the people who expect to be called first..... i have no cell phone i shoot a deer with an hour of light left it jus starting drizzling an its 70-75 degress out.... IM GOIN AFTER MY DEER.... no way am i goin home to make a phone call.. nor am i gonna wait till the next morning cause the deer wont be no good in the warmer temps an the rain washed any blood away.... would you still expect to be called first?

Yes I do expect a call.By law you have no right to be on private property and are tresspassing. In my case there are 4 houses with in a mile of my property and all have phones. Your case may be differant,there might not be any houses around."BUT"
As hunters we have to respect other peoples property. If we don't it gives us all bad names.Don't get me wrong I would want every deer to be recovered but you can't side step the law because you have a wounded deer.

Basically, in order to enter my property, you have to have written permission. Some of my firends have full access written permission. And some of the neighbors have blood trailing only written permission. But there has to be a visable blood trail crossing the boundry. All of the rest that need to enter the land must have someone with written permision get the deer.

In the past I would allow anyone who needed to retrieve game do it. Unfortunately, I had one neighbor that I caught on my land repeatedly tell me he was trailing a wounded deer. Unfortunately each time he could not provide the blood trail, and in my mind he was hunting and abusing his privledges. Needless to say, he does not have written permission to enter the land in any circumstance. He would need toget someone with permission to retrieve any game. And if I catch himin any circumstance, he will be turned in. I always appreciate the person who will be hunting near my land to come and talk to me about things like this before an event happens. It gives me a chance to talk to the person and get to know them a bit.
Its the person that shows no respect, enters the land,and acts like they have aright to be on my land that I have a problem with.

This happened to me a few years ago. I arrowed a deer and he went running straight for the fence and into the neighboring property. I've known this guy for years so I simply called him from my stand and told him what had happened and to see if he would mind me going after it. I also wanted to make sure nobody was hunting there right now. (Nothing iritates me more than waking up early to hunt, get situated and a few hours later you see someone walking underneath you.) If someone ever calls meand asks to retrieve an animal I am also more than happy to go out and help them look.

I caught are neighbor looking for there deer one night. Yes they got a ride from the cops and there 4 wheeler taken.

If they would have called we would have help them. Yes I found the deer for them and gave it to them the next morning.
I will note that these guys are know violaters, we do not have the best relationship. I do not want a deer to waste, so I put our differnce aside to help them.

About 2 years later they shot a little fawn in the front shoulder. I saw it go down and knew it was them. I gutted the deer and carried it(with 1 finger:D) to the road. It was late and I seen them stop and watch me. They were going to do it again, LOL I flagged them down and tossed the damn deer in their truck;)

Now itdoes not matter since there house and land was foreclosed on.

Like I said with todays cell phone there is no reason notto call, or communicate with the owner before hand.

I am a land owner in addition to my primary dwelling and land. I have a hunting camp along with some land in a rural part of the state. I do believe in property rights and would never personally trespass on posted land without permission. My landfor the record is not posted and I welcome hunters orhikers on my property.This is an open hunting state and we have the rights to hunt on private land that is not posted. The issue of a mortally wounded deer crossing on a neighbors property isn't really an issue here since almost all property owners will allow access to remove the animal. The areas I like to hunt are for the most part not posted. In the event that someone does not give permission (an anti )a call to a local Game Warden will allow access with him present.

In Illinois it's illegal to enter private property to retieve wounded game and, like it or not, every person that hunts in Illinois must respect that. Thus, I fully expect a call before anyone enters MY property to retrieve their game.... if not, face charges.

I would help them look. Here it is legal to track a wounded animal onto neighboring property as long as you do not take a weapon with you. I would allow them to bring a weapon if I could help them track incase it was necessary to shoot the deer again.
