RE: Non-Resident Landowner Rights!
Iowa is messed up in our hunting regs. They "want" the deer population reduced BUT they put QUOTAS on early muzzleloader deer liscenses. Sorry to tell you but there is virtually no way to get it changed. I believe that the DNR is probably responsible and they are SSSSSSSSSSSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO dumb! you could gift the land to me if you want;)

RE: Non-Resident Landowner Rights!
I'm, not trying take the post over and create a debate, as everyone is entitled to their opinion.. But why do you feel you should get resident priveledges when you're not a resident? IMO, there are lots of things that are rights only to residents... whether it's voting, deer tags, or a million other things. Paying taxes like everyone else doesn't make you a resident... claiming residency and living in Iowa does.
Again, I'm not trying to open a can of worms, just giving my 2 cents. |

RE: Non-Resident Landowner Rights!
I agree with Joey. For instance, owning 40 acres in Illinois grants you free landowner permits on that property only. I would have a problem with someone who buys 40 acres for hunting, doesn't live there but wants free landowner permits.

RE: Non-Resident Landowner Rights!
I agree. The non resident owner is feeding the deer, supplying them a home, hopefully managing the deer herd and paying for the taxes and I agree with the residents that the non residentshould not get all the rights of a resident but to be gaurenteed to kill just one buck a year JUST on their own property, this is not asking much!

Too bad you cant legally claim residency in multiple states...[8D] |
RE: Non-Resident Landowner Rights!
Kansas and Illionois have largely gone the route of pay to hunt, or you must own the land. Thankfully, the politicians in Iowa are smart enough to know how to protect the hunting opportunities of their residents. And guess what, its one of the last places you can have a legitimate chance at a Boone & Crockett buck without having to pay an outfitter or own land. You dont have to like it but you knew the rules when you bought the land. Many hunters in Illinois and Kansas will tell you that the nonresidents and outfitters have ruined their hunting opportunities. Why should we fall into the same trap to make hunters that dont live and work here happy? We shouldnt and likely wont for quite some time. I have friends that live out of state and even helped them find and buy a 600 acre farm here that is second to none for deer hunting. I have no problem with them owning ground here that I cant hunt, but then they dont whine about drawing tags because when they do get tags, they kill the biggest deer of their lives. I guess thats good enough for them.
