I just did mine last week and shook things up by adding a 50 pound salt block and dumping some of that mineral "treat" stuff that's supposed to foam up over it and solidify. Well, a day later it rained and there's nothing left. What a waste. I knew there was a reason I keep things simple. I will be writing the company and demanding a refund.

chucker:

The deer get minerals NATURALLY from the earth, anyways. I wouldn't worry about it dissolving. That's IDEAL.

Chucker most mineral blocks dont get activated til it rains and breaks down. When it rains it causes the minerals to break down and get flushed into the soil. Thats when the deer come and will actually paw up the soil to get the minerals. I used some deer cocaine and a few corn flavored salt blocks last year and they dug out a pretty nice hole.

I just put out some deer co-cain Black Magic and a mineral block. Dont think it was any kind of brand name mineral block i got it from a local feed store. This is the first time ive used any minerals or anything. I just ordered a Moultrie 4.1 outfitter cam so it should be here in a week or two cant wait to set it up and see whats out there.

Thanks guys. I usually break up a 50 pound salt block and 50 pound mineral block with a sledgehammer into little chunks inside a slight depression I dig and then partially bury them and let the rain do its work.

I was just thinking this was supposed to solidify on the surface - that's what all the pics on the package show. I was interested in seeing how the deer react to it and if they'd use it that way. It says on the package that will last a few weeks before the deer consume it so I wasn't worried about any baiting laws come hunting season.

Salt is not going to help them much. It's good to use to attract the deer to the other minerals, but that's about it.
