Default First 3D Shoot last night

OK, so I finally gave in and started shooting for a 3D league this summer. Last night was the first round and it was a lot of fun. 28 Targets, 10x,10,8,5,0 for score posibilities. I assume that is pretty common? Anyways, I shot a 259 out of 280 with 7 x's, so i was pretty happy with that. A couple shots I guessed wrong, one shot I forgot to adjust my sight, and a couple targets i just did not know where to aim because of the animal, but all in all I think I did pretty well. I hit where I wanted all but 3-4 shots. I usually don't shoot form 10 yds at all, so the close shots Idid the worst on. I guess i need to shoot my 10yds more. I think later in the year I will start to set my sight at 25yrds and adjust by where i aim to get ready for hunting season, but I'm happy. This is with a new(to me) bow and different sight, rest, etc.

3D shoots are a good way to keep occupied in the off season and help practice for hunting. I used to try to be competitive, but the guys that win are usually toting target rigs and take 10 minutes of staring at the target to shoot. So, I don't take it very seriously anymore, and just try to have fun and focus on my shooting. I'd recommend it to anyone, it's a lot of fun.

Yeah, i couldnt see myself really gettin into target shooting to the extreme where i would usea different bow. The only reason i would shoot it would be to practice shooting my hunting bow for season

It is fun and yes, some of the folks get pretty serious about it. You'll recognize them immediately (LOL). Do it for fun and to keep tuned up for hunting season. The one thing that does help is a good pair of binocs slung over the shoulder to identify the manufacturers kill zone. I get a lot of dead animals on the course but not many 10's and 12's because the X's seem to to be heart shots and I forget and always go for the lungs. Good luck.

3D target shooting is a good way to practice and stay in top form , I'm on a 3D league at my local range for the next nine weeks.
It's a 12 week league with 30 targets and the scoring goes like 10X , 10 , 8 , 5 and 0 as of last week I'm holding on to a 286 average.
I'm also on the HNI Vegas league and was on the HNI Five Spot league , it's been alot of fun and it keeps me shooting my bow at least twice a week.
So when archery season open in Oct. , this bow hunter will be ready and more confident about his shooting and shot placement.

RDHunter,

You just gave the reason why I want to start 3D shootingwhen I get my rig squared away. I can shoot at dots all year long and not be as ready for shooting game. Practice shooting at game like animals and learning to judge yardage so that when the season starts you are ready.

As for the guys with the target rigs. I'd think nothing would steam them more than a guy with a hunting rig out shooting them.

I'm actually just starting to get interested in giving a 3D shoot a try. Any information you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Such as, what kind of distances will I be shooting? Between 10 and 50 yards? And thanks for the headsup on the binoculars. Great tip!!! Maniac
