Default I know it's turkeys.....but it's also BOWHUNTING

No matter how much I "think" I'm learning......the animals I'm pursuing always seem to prove to me how little I know them.

I had a short time frame to get in my 4th turkey hunt of the season, yesterday.....and thought "what the heck". I'll give it a go. I got to my spot about 5:45......and got settled in. I'd heard a gobbler on the way in......and I thought I might could get around him undetected. Who knows if I was successful, or not.

If you've followed my scouting threads and photos.....you'll know I have a pretty healthy turkey population in my hunting area. I see, sometimes, 40 and MORE birds during DEER season in my prime deer hunting spot, and I had always figured this flock migrated to other properties during the Spring (after all.....there COULDN'T be TWO flocks of turkeys that big, here, huh?).

Well......I had been in my blind for just a few minutes when I heard them start gobbling. I was set up in a little field......in the woods....about 125-150 yds off my deer hunting "honey hole". I have never heard so much gobbling in all my life! I must have heard them sound off 50+ times in my 2:15 hunt. Now that doesn't say much for my ability to draw them in......but it DOES mean that they're THERE! The turkeys in this area routinely roost in my honey hole (and around it) in the Fall....but I'd just "assumed" they were the same flock I'd been scouting several properties away. Last night.....I heard them fly up in my honey hole.

This changes EVERYTHING!!!....lol

On a side note.....I saw 8 deer wander through about 6:30......and a lone deer come into my mineral site at dusk. If you have mineral sites.....it's time to replenish them. I'll be doing so, Sunday.

Good luck guys!

Knowing EXACTLY where they are helps tremendously. If you can get set up close to the roost without being undected you might think your waterfowl hunting when birds starting falling from the sky into your decoys!

I'm honestly not getting that close, Michael. I'm estimating 125 yds (into the woods a little more). I've got a spot that I've deer hunted some......right at the edge of a little "boggy" area that I'd like to try. It's open enough.....and I think they're going by here.

Will post a photo of the set-up on Monday. Hopefully I'll have MORE photos....lol[&:]

Haha, alright! I was saying good luck to the turkey hunt, not really saying good luck at getting so close they fly into your decoys! haha

We did get pretty close to this guy the other day though! Gobble Gobble!
