That works great as long as you are in an archery only season. I would recommend against it while bowhunting in an any weapon hunt. Especially if you use a strutting gobbler.

I feel your pain, BHB. Shot mine at 15 yards last night. Arrow whistled right through him and it looked like the bird was going down for about five or six seconds. Then he just ran off into the thick stuff. Sounded like I got close to him about 15 minues later and he flew across the river. If there is a next time, I'm shooting further forward - like where the wing attaches to the body.

If you can make 40 yards on the target range, thats awesome, but leave it there. Turkey's don't hold still for nothing. It really doesn't matter how good a shot you are, you should probably limit yourself to no more than 25 yards with turkeys and a bow. Their eyesight is just too good. I don't think its "string jump" I think that they can see the arrow coming, or at least see something that ain't right. And keep in mind that 6 inches at 60 yards is about 4 inches at 40, and thats PLENTY to screw up a turkey. Being off any more than two inches is a loss.

Not trying to give you a hard go here, but just keep in mind that if you don't shoot, or more appropriately if you don't cripple it up, then it will be there tomorrow. Admittingly, you won't ever take one if you don't shoot, but a little discresion goes a long way.

I have heard that you dont want your arrows to go straight through turkeys.
I was wondering if i should let down my poundage which is currently set at #60 so that it wont go straight through?

leave it at 60, its what you are comfortable with, and it prob wont pass through anyway if you use the right heads for your arrows. ive seen 70 pound bows leave arrows in turkeys.

that sucks

Happened to mea few years back first year turkey hunting and tryed with my bow. Was at 20 yrds faceing away shot a little back through center of body it ran off and got airbourn flew away with my arrow. Later on flushed it out of a tree to never be seen after that. Now I will only head shoot but have not got the chance since. Its been about 4 yrs. practice makes perfect.
