Lost a turkey on Sunday

i had been waiting for a bout 4 hours when two MONSTERS came in.
I waited for one with a beard that brushed the ground to turn broadside.
I drew back and shot it hit him farther back then i wanted it to.
It was a 40 yard shot and they werent coming any closer.
He jumped 8 feet up and ran to a drop off on a hill and glided off.
i was more pissed and depresed than i have ever been.
If only i had hit him 3 inches farther up[:@]

Good luck
i hope this doesnt happen to you

Sounds like 40 yards is out of your range...........lesson learned the hard way.

At 60 yards i shoot 6 inch patterns, 40 yards is a fairly easy shot but i wont take it again because they jump the string.

Yes i did find it out the hard way

Things change so much when the target is alive and your heart is racing and usually you only get one shot so it HAS to be right............and turkey vitals are a small bullseye.

Too bad it wasn't a clean miss.

Ever happen to you?
I am gonna use a decoy this weekend so i can get a 20 yard or closer shot.

Set that decoy up only 5 yards from your blind. They come right in and you can get that 20 yard shot that is really best.

40 yds is a bit far i would say.it only takes half an inch to mess up.especially on turkeys.thats what hunting is all about get them in closer or wait for another shot.

p.s 60 yds with a bow is quite a shot.i dont think i have ever even tried a shot that far.better luck next time
