This has been entertaining to say the least.

I don't believe that hunters are becoming selfish. I believe we've always been that way. It's in our nature. Am I selfish? Of course I am. We all are, to some extent. We're human beings, the only species on the planet with so called higher reasoning capacity. Yes I'm selfish. Does that mean that I'm not compassionate, concerned about the well-being of others, and at times, selfless? Nope. That's in our nature as well.

I can't even imagine taking a P&Y buck with a bow. Would I like to? Heck yes. But why? Why do those of you who hunt exclusively for trophy bucks do so? Bragging rights?Prestige? Self satisfaction? Fulfillment of your personal goal? Whatever your reason, you do it for yourself, and even if that does make you selfish or self-centered, there's nothing wrong with that.

Concerning the road kill deer, I'll be honest. If I saw a 180 class 6x6 buck lying on the side of the road, the thought of the wasted meat wouldn't be what entered my mind. Honestly, it would be "What a shame. I wish I could have killed that thing. I need to hunt here."

Would I give money to a stranger. Yes. I've done it many times. Was I conned or duped? Yes and no, because I knew that chances were the guy/girl was probably making as much as if not more than me playing this part, but what if it's the genuine hard luck case and he/she needs help?"If a man asks for your coat,give him your shirt also." How many of us are too"selfish" to follow this directive?

I would never expect someone who hasscouted his land, set up multiple stands, planted and maintained food plots andmanaged the deer herd to then invite others to come and hunt. Is that selfishness on their part. Maybe, butI really feel that they have a right to be selfish in that situation

I've only met a handful of people in my 43 years that I would calltruly selfless. I'm not one of them. I try to help everyone that I can, but I feel I have to draw the line somewhere. There are always situations where I put my own interests above those of others. We all do at some point. If we didn't, we wouldn't be human.

I TRULY want to understand your point. Are you asking if we (as a hunting community) don't offer these spots.....because we're "jealous" of what someone else "might" kill on "our" properties?

I know exactly what he's talking about. If I were hunting in a club with people I didn't know well and I spotted the buck of a lifetime just out of range, I'd think twice about goingback to campthat evening and telling them what I saw. There are people out there who would reposition themselves to get a shot at that deer. Yes, I would say that's being selfish, but I think it's a healthy level of selfishness.

I think a better question is why has hunting communitybecome so competitive.

Because of being more competitive we have become more selfish and jealous at the same time and of each other. We use to help each other score a deer, and now we sometimes hinder folks from scoring a deer.Maybe we have lost focus on what hunting is about.
That is his point(IMO)
