RE: Zen Antler Mounts (Pic maybe, maybe not)
that look great, i do almost the same thing with my racks.i'll list my steps...
1. drill a hole through the skull plate and place a t-head bolt through it.
2. place the rack on a flat piece of scrap wood and fasten it down using a nut.
3. using plaster of paris create a desired shape around the antler base. let dry for a day or so. then sand plaster mold until it is smoothe and even throughout the rack.
4. next use felt(the color of your desire, i use green)and carefully cut so it can be placed around the antler base and sew it onto the mold..(sew on the backside of thre mold using the bolt as a anchor point for the thread)
5. last you will either have to make a plaque like i do or buy one and attach the rack to it..it looks really professional and will last forever..i'll post a pic of some of my mounts in a few days..

Looks good vc. I too mount mine somewhat like Andy. However I take a piece of plywood cut a circle out of it, I have a template for this, and secure the skull plate to the wood with drywall screws. I then mix my plaster and spread it over the skull, making sure not to get it on the antlers. I always spray the antlers with clear coat first to give them a bit of a shine and it makes it easier to get the plaster dust off the antler bases. I let them sit for a day or two to dry. When they are dry I use a small multi-file to shape them. When I have them in the shape I want, I use the glue gun to put a cotton batting over the plaster and then use felt, much the same as you describe. The only difference is the rack is in my hand and not secured to the plaque. When I have finished with the felt, sometimes I will cut thin strips of whatever color felt I used and make a braid and glue it around the base of the antlers. Now it is ready to put on a plaque or just hang on the wll like they are. For a cheap and easy wall hanger, if you are not using a plaque, just use a tab from a can of pop. I monted up a bunch for a guy I work with after he seen one of the bucks I mounted and thought I took to a pro. I done them for about nothing as I only charged him $10.00 each. This year I have raised my prices a little and charge $20 without a plaque and $30 with.
