My taxidermist did it a few years back.. the story is awesome, not to mention the size of the shoulder mount :D

He did it w/ a bow too, it was pretty impressive, he's got the rib w/ the arrow sticking through it next to the mount.. pretty neat display.

And yes i think its for the trophy.
Dumb. Sorry, how is a giraffe dangerous and how are they hard to hunt? A giraffe can be seen from how far away? Oh yeah, the terrain you hunt on is flat? Not much of a sport to me. Elephant hunting is the same way.

I'd rather hunt a full season in the bitter Wisconsin cold and shoot a doe on the last day of the season than to call an animal that has a brain the size of a pea a trophy.

Oh yeah, that show on Vs. Extreme something or other. Where they hunt wild game in Africa, I think is a joke. "Lets walk up to this elephant and wait for it to charge. Then all the trackers (5 total) can open up their shotguns/rifles on it to bring it down for the hunter." Dumb and it gives our sport a BAD NAME.

I don't necessarily agree with the first portion of what you said, just my opinion. But the second half I am totally with you on. The show on VS is a load of crap. And going off that I watched a thing on the history channel today on taxidermy, they opened the show up with four guys stalking one grizzly, then after the kill they go on to say that he skinned it and fleshed it as fast he could and just left the meat. I was pissed when i heard that! I don't want to believe that a guide service just let the bear go to waste and I cannot believe that the History channel would make the insinuation that the guides did that. GRRRRRR[:@]Angry now!

Schobs,

He wasn't...I let him walk...wasn't big enough! LOL

Burbaust99,

In Alaska, bears are considered non-consumable and thus you are not required to take the meat from the field. I hear you though. I have had my teeth into some pretty good "sweet and sour" bear served over rice! Five of us actually lived on bear meat for several days while waiting for the weather to clear. It was very tasty right off the campfire grill.

MDBUCKHUNTER,

To each his own...Honestly, you can make a hunt like that as hard or as easy as you like. I have never hunted elephant, but I look forward to doing it with a bow...

Are you up on all the info coming out of South African right now? It appears they have a major surplus of elephants...kind of like the surplus of elk in Rocky Mountain National Park. Point being...they have got to cull some to maintain the biodiversity of Kruger National park. A point blank frontal shot to the brain is a sure fire method of stopping an elephant inhis tracks. Anything short of that can and does get messy. Besides, where's the challenge of shooting them from, let's say, 100 yards away? Remember, they need to be culled and it sure beats sitting in the cold.

Hunting, at least for me, should not be a spectator sport. I do not have a problem with hunting shows, videos, etc-they have their place as learning tools. But, as such, they should be bought and paid for. I hate it when the general public has access to the things we do.IMO, there is nothing glamourous in killing one of God's creatures, especially if you love em like I do... I do not want Joe Public watching as I do what I need to do as a conservationist.

I must admit I shot a giraffe last saturday it was different but they are just too easy to hunt specially in a spot and stalk situation, you can spot them a long way off and with their heads so far up you can sneak up on them with ease.

Here is the pic of the one I shot I am not proud and wont be getting any sort of mount done.;)

Now I'd like to see the hide done. That in itself would be worth saving if a mount isn't done out of the animal. A thick skinned animal would make for a great rug or wall covering mount.

Ausie-guy I hope the wind doesn't blow to hard cause the giraffe target would be airborne. Stakes have to be well in the ground to hold it :D

Because the thousands of native people that love toeat it. I believe it is illegal to import the meat from these animals into the USA.

Also the millions of dollars that it generates to protect these animals from the professional poachers that run rampid in that part of the world

You can thank Disney for that one. ;)
