I have a dandy of a secret spot about 20 miles from the White House in Fairfax Co. A buddy has 2 acres behind his house that only I hunt. He and all his neighbors call me all the time to come hunt and take some deer out of the area. I have been providing minerals for over 2 years now and feeding in the off season. The QDM is working as my father-in-law took a nice mature buck this year. I have also taken 4 does this past season to fill the freezer. I love the urban archery opportunities. I can be there and to work any morning and leave work a little early for any afternoon hunts. The land backs up to 400 acres of Park Land and a Golf Course. The Golf Course GreensKeeper has already sent me an email to hunt around some of his greens next season to thin them out on the course. I am truly blessed. Here is a picture of the only buck we took of the land this year. I already have my eye on a nice 12 pointer for next season. I have him on trail cam.

I know just what you mean about Urban deer hunting. Thats pretty much all I get to hunt. But folks don't feel bad for me as I would travel out of the country to hunt urban areas if I lived in the country. I have shot some really remakable deer in these areas just outside of Boston Ma. I do hunt big woods in Maine once a year but it can't even come close to my urban hunting. Check this out This deer came from an area surrounded on all 4 sides by houses. It was just bearly legal for hunting,

If your going to hunt here in jersey, you better get used to the idea of hunting around houses. There are some monster neighborhood bucks in certain areas cause they dont get hunted and munch away on peoples expensive landscaping.

Well I have to say that I hunt in both kinds of areas. One particular piece of property I hunt is extremely "urban"(hear people leaving for work, yelling at dogs/kids, etc). I also hunt some very rural pieces (100 acre farm surrounded by about 4000 acres of woods, farm, creek bottoms). Now both places are fun to hunt and I have had good success at both but the "urban" area is far easier to hunt, hands down. The deer are accustomed to human interaction but they still avoid it, this makes it extremely easy to isolate their travel routes to and from food sources by picking the areas that stay farthest from humans or are thick enough to provide them security. When you are talking about a couple 100 acres skirted around houses, yards, and food sources it is not that difficult to find activity. And then on top of that the deer are less spooky, I get away with more scent "violations" and disturbances (probably due to people walking dogs, riding horses, etc.)than I ever would at the farm and the deer have far less options as far as where to go. I don't think I am doing anything wrong by taking advantage of this situation but I also know that lots of the tactics I use in my "urban" honeyhole wouldn't fly at the farm and other "big woods" areas I hunt. Just a thought.
