RE: How many BOW turkey hunters we gonna see this year?
Please don't rain on my parade. I don't know where monroe is but I was in southern Illonois and a field next to a farm a coworker has access to was loaded. I would hate spend the money on flights and beer with out seeing one turkey.

RE: How many BOW turkey hunters we gonna see this year?
I really love Fall Turkey Bowhunting Here in Illinois... We get to buy over the counter tags for $5.50 each and we can take a total of 2 birds being of either sex in the fall and our season runs from opening day of archery deer season till the close of archery deer season with a few breaks for firearm seasons.
I dont do the ground Blind thing cause I also dont really care to be cooped up inside a blind and feel like I cant see enough of whats going on around me....but I do make use of large tree trunks on the side of steep ridges where I know the turkeys will travel by. I will find a large trunk tree will large roots that protrude up out of the ground on either side of the tree and act like a bench or seat for me to sit on one side of the tree or the other....I can see the turkeys usually coming from a long way away in the woods and the large tree trunks offer me enough cover to draw without getting busted...... I am setting up in an area where I know the turkeys like to pass through on their way to roost.. I have had 2 misses with this setup so far due to miss judgements in yardage.[:@] I did this once sitting behind the root ball of a fallen tree on the side of the ridge hoping the deer would travel through this funnel on their way to their evening fields to feed only to have turkeys come in on top of the ridge above me feeding on acorns ... so I quickly forget about the deer hunting and went after the birds....as they were making their way to roost... I had to do the crawl up the side of the ridge ... and get on a knee to get a shot off at this Jake... my first...... Turkey ever with my bow ( I dont gun hunt ) I just love chaseing the birds also in the Fall but they always seem to beat me to the spot where I am trying to cut them off at... I gotta learn to move faster I guess;)I learned a ton from the good folks on this site in the Turkey Forumwhen I first started to bowhunt turkey... and owe them many many Thanks So Have A Great Time On Your Turkey Hunt and We wanna see video:D ![]() |
