Went hunting with DaveH Monday. To say the deer are hearded up is an understatement. Upon entering our hunting area we jumped deer in numbers in every direction at long range. The woods are so bare you can see forever and we were spoted. We thought well, we're cooked now but pressed on and selected trees anyway for our evening hunt. Half hour or so later I get a shot at a doe @40 yrds, shot over her by inch's. An hour or so into the hunt and I see deer coming out of a hedgerow about 70 yrds out and they just kept coming and coming and coming. It was like the school door open for recess, I would say 50 or more deer came busting out of that hedgerow with most going straight across the field and 20 or so entering my woods some 35 yards below me. They were horseing around getting up on thier hind legs and boxing one another occaisionly looking my way. Thinking I was made I looked behind me and there was 2 beautiful red foxes 10 yards behind me. After a while everything dispersed leaving me no shots. Dave calls me on the radio and says some of them went down his way and that there are2 bucks and a single doe in the field below him one a very respectable 10 point. These 3 deer make there way past him offering no shot and end up in my liveing room. After about 15 minutes of fooling around and coming within 35 yrds of me they leave never to be seen by Dave or me again that evening. That closed out our hunt but we will be back Fri evening and Sat morning. Temps will be 24 for a high but we have to give it one last shot and call it a year. These deer are really hearded up, either your going to see a lot or nothing at all. Great way to end the year weather we score this weekend or not.

Sounds like a great hunt, even if you didn't get one. I was on my way to my daughters volleyball game. As I headed south of town a few miles I passes a field that had winter wheat in it. I didn't count them but had to 50 or so. I jumped out and shot a quick video of them. I saw a buck coming up last of the group so tried to get some vid of him. As I reviewed the tape there was a bigger buck in the middle of the group. Never the less, they are bunched up here also, and I still see antlers.

And what zoo were you hunting in? LOL Sounds like a definite over population property, and then you go and forget everything I taught you. You're not suppose to miss.[8D] I thought Dave only had a 6 acre patch to hunt? How do you fit 50 deer in 6 acres and not get a shot? You're slipping. You been around RonM too long.

Sounds pretty exciting! That happened to me last year on the last day of the season. I saw a heard of 25 or more deer but most of them moved on out of range excpet one, and i shot under it. I cant imagine see that many deer in one outing. Most have been awesome. Get em next time. Good luck!

Dave, this place is miles away from his home.Don't think there is an over population problem as I have hunted there with him before and havn't seen anything.Surrounded bybigfarmland parcels,a powerline and anda hungeundeveloped field that will be houses next year. That one field has always been planted in crops but not this year.Looked like pert near all the deer in Hartford County were on that parcel

Actually, THIS place isn't much over 6 acres (Dave, my place is 14 acres). I've seen a BUNCH of them over at this place - and always at this time of year, but never in the numbers Rick saw Monday. I saw a couple of the same ones Rick saw, but most of the 20 or so I saw came out of another area. The 10 point was a surprise and he and another buck seemed to be pretty interested in this doe they stayed with. If I had gone to the tree I originally planned to use, I would have had my pick, but after we busted so many of them, I figured that tree was a bust for the night!
Fri/Sat is gonna be COLD, but probably will be worth it!

Sounds like exactly what happened to me on Tuesday. Jumped 5 walking it to my tree, but since they did not go off blowing and snorting I considered it a "soft jump"...if there is such a thing. Went ahead and got in my tree and about 45 minutes before dark the woods came alive with deer. It was in the mid 30's, no wind to speak of and the deer were everywhere. None came within shooting distance, but they were there, playing around and providing me with a good show. It was fun to watch. I was well hidden and what little wind there was was in my favor. I'm certain I did not spook these deer and they had wondered off before I got down from my tree and snuck out of the woods.
Went again last night, cold, no wind, same area, but different location and NOTHING, not even a hint of a deer. No idea why.
Temps should be in the mid 20's by time I get out today. We're on the front edge of a front which will hopefully have them up and moving. Winds will be a little stronger, but that's hunting.

Rick last fall you came over to my house and practiced with the bow, I thought you were pretty on traget on each of your shots, I can see that this year I am going to have to stress more practice for you and expect a little more discipline on these practice sessions.. I am extremely disappointed.....I thought you were better than that....

I've seen some decent activity recently around Harford County while on my way home from work. I am hoping to get out Saturday morning and then Monday afternoon if all goes well for one last shot. Glad to hear that the activity is still up in the woods. Where exactly were you guys hunting? I have a few spots both south and north in the county and was trying to debate on which property I should give a shot. I got my 10-point from up north back in December, but was thinking about giving my southern section a final try.
