"Urban" Archery

I don't intend to imply that your hunting was easier. In fact you probably deal with more pressure than I do. But sometimes a guy finds himself in situations where the deer are just easier to get whether because they live practically in the city, or just from sheer numbers. Does that make it any less ethical? I don't think so. I have an uncle who shoots deerin the suburbs of a big city with a special permit and a crossbow. The deer are so used to humans that they're hardly scared of him.I don't think it's unethical.Obviously yourhunting is a lot different than that, butthe deer he hunts have to be removed somehow, and hunting is taking care of that, even though it's probably not something a lot of us would get a big thrill out of.

I thought everybody hunted them "where they are". I've always assumed that was the plan. If I shouldn't.....I DO take offense to the insinuation that my hunting is "easier". I dunno.
I've never NOT felt a sense of accomplishment when I take an animal.
Hunt them wherever they are. It doesn't matter whether it's in your backyard or not. Just because they are easier to hunt in some areas than othersdoesn' t mean you shouldn't hunt the "easier" areas. If a deer is practically forced to funnel between two subdivisions100 yards apart, does that mean you shouldn't shoot him? You may not feel as much accomplishment, but that doesn't make it unethical.

I think he meant that it was easier to locate them thus easier to hunt them. I too have one spot that is a small parcel of landsurrounded by forest preserve. There is no hunting in the preserve so the deer population in this area in high. It's a no brainer to get on deer there.
The spotsI hunt that are in more rual areas and cover many many thousands of acres are much harder to get on the deer than the small spot. Needless to say Ispend much more time scouting in that area becauseit's much harder to locate where the deer are from year to year.
Iknow where the deer are in the small parcel.....the same place they were last year, and the year before that, and the year before that.

Deer are opportunists. Hunters, in my mind, should be, too. I go where the deer are in my area. If I had an opportunity to drive an hour and see less deer in bigger woods.....what do you suppose my choice would be???

In the small parcel they don'treally have anywhere to go and must stay put to keep within the confines of the timber and open fields. I know in my case they will not (for the most part) go outside of the forest preserve for this very reason therefore when they do move they keep in the preserve. The property that I huntis mostly wooded and butts up to the preserve so I know they will be moving through it as well.
Like I said I know where they will be next year and the years to come as welland not much effort will be needed to find where they are moving when hunting season closes in. The big woods on the other hand.............

Hey.....we hunting the same place????
I guess I don't know any different. I also guess I don't understand the other side of it. When I was duck hunting a lot......and I hunted "interior" impoundments and farm ponds...... the duck hunting I did there was just as fun (and satisfying) as when I put the boat in the water and cruised a few miles in the marsh and put the blind up. I'm not trying to make this harder!!!....lol

Fieldmouse.....that's hard to explain to people, though. I called Rob/PA when I shot my 1st deer and told him there were 25 deer around me. One would think that was a blessing.....'til he tries to draw his bow.

GMMAT, I have to ask.....why do you care if some think you have an easy spot to hunt or dumb deer to shoot? I wouldn't care what anyone (especially people on a forum that I would never meet) thought about how, when or what I hunted.
Just curious.

It just gets old to hear people belittle my way of hunting. I thought I'd post a photo of where I hunt just to show it wasn't a city park....lol.
I'm not bothered until someone believes that's what I'm doing.
That's the truth.
