Squirrels and deer
I've seen the postings about fox and deer. How about squirrel and deer? Maybe it's just me, but I don't see them at the same time. Granted, it could be that I am just paying more attention to the deer, but I don't remember seeing them at the same time in the same small area. It's always one or the other. Usually, the squirrels are tearing it up, and then a deer comes in and the rest of the woods quieten down. I know they compete for acorns to some degree, and I've seen squirrels barking at deer, but do they dislike each other? I've never heard of them fighting. I thought about this this weekend and will try to watch for both at the same time on my next few hunts.

RE: Squirrels and deer
I believe that squirrels are not afraid of deer really. Squirrels seem to react to noise and movement no matter what the source the same way. I do not think that they can diferentiate ground noise of friend or foe and have seen them bark at nearly everything that moves or makes noise.

RE: Squirrels and deer
My observations have been that as deer enter an area the squirrel tend to either go into a tree or give them a wide buffer zone, I have never noticed a deer really being aggressive or the like to a squirrel, I have noticed deer will look in the direction of a squirrel when they start to bark, but that is about it.

RE: Squirrels and deer
I got to agree with Basserman on this one it seems like if anything comes into the area when squirrels are around they tend to take to the trees.
