I think you misuderstood my whole post. I'm not looking for a place to hunt. I have great places to hunt that I walk to. I'm just looking to make the herd I hunt as healthy as possible. I hunt parcels as small as 1.4 acres...lol.....but I probably saw as many deer as most.

Good luck to you, too.

No, I understood your post but my point is that some areas are loaded with little deer and will be that way. While other areas are loaded with big deer. I hunt with a friend who absolutely won't wake up in the morning if he doesn't think he will see a big deer to shoot. Go figure. I can't argue his point when you see how many 140+ class deer he's shoot year after year. He tags out all of his buck tags every yearwith big deer. He shoots a bunch of little ones for target practice.

Yea Nc can produce some pope and youngs and a few booners as well but they do shoot every thing that moves. If i want to shoot a deer i go around my house for a doe or a smaller buck because of teh fact that the neighboring club wont let anything go at all. I shot a 7 and an 8 point both with 14 in spread that i shouldnt have shot but i wanted some meat and teh oppourtunity presented itself to get my team some points so that is what i did. Now the other property i got is sweet. I have got several around there that will go pope and young that arent on camera and one borderline one that i think will make it. Guess what it does have lots of pressure but the buck to doe ration is about 2 to 1 or 3 to 1 and i can see him in the daylight. I saw him twice this year. Once during bow season 50 yards away through the brush and he winded me the next time it was late and i watched him run the ridge below me. that tells me we have got potential just not enough people that want that

I asked this same question of NC DNR Officer David Denton and he said the best deer to remove are young does.Because: the older does are better mothers producing more milk, better protecting their young and producing healthy twins/triplets.

I hear ya....and I agree. MY problem is quite the opposite from most. I don't ahve enough people taking deer to keep the pops in check. The deer I hunt haven't REALLY been pressured in years. Cars take more deer out of my herd than I can. With the advent of the new doe laws.....I can help, better, to get the herd in check. I just want to make sure I'm doing th eright thing by taking the right animals (of course, does).

I've heard many say the same thing.....but I also think it may have something to do with what shape your herd's already in. At least the offspring from the older does would stand a better chance of being healthy (vs. the young breeders). That seems to be what Ted Nugent is preaching....along with your C.O.. I'm going to ask the state wildlife bio, I guess.

Is the Nuge your state wildlife biologist? Does he even have a degree in wildlife biology? Do you see where this is leading?

"GET MY TEAM SOME POINTS"??? That right there has got to be one of the stupidest reasons I've ever heard for shooting a deer.[&:]

Fieldmouse.....Hence the reason I'm posting this and asking the questions I'm asking. If I believed your statement above.......I'd hunt 'em without caring. "I" belive if I can get the numbers in check.....and get the buck/doe ratio in check......"my" herd can be as healthy as any in the state. The state of NC has taken one step towards empowering me. Ball's in my court, now.....I just need to see the game plan the state's got in mind will help me "win".
