New NC Law.....& herd management
#11
I think you misuderstood my whole post. I'm not looking for a place to hunt. I have great places to hunt that I walk to. I'm just looking to make the herd I hunt as healthy as possible. I hunt parcels as small as 1.4 acres...lol.....but I probably saw as many deer as most.
Good luck to you, too.

No, I understood your post but my point is that some areas are loaded with little deer and will be that way. While other areas are loaded with big deer. I hunt with a friend who absolutely won't wake up in the morning if he doesn't think he will see a big deer to shoot. Go figure. I can't argue his point when you see how many 140+ class deer he's shoot year after year. He tags out all of his buck tags every yearwith big deer. He shoots a bunch of little ones for target practice.

Yea Nc can produce some pope and youngs and a few booners as well but they do shoot every thing that moves. If i want to shoot a deer i go around my house for a doe or a smaller buck because of teh fact that the neighboring club wont let anything go at all. I shot a 7 and an 8 point both with 14 in spread that i shouldnt have shot but i wanted some meat and teh oppourtunity presented itself to get my team some points so that is what i did. Now the other property i got is sweet. I have got several around there that will go pope and young that arent on camera and one borderline one that i think will make it. Guess what it does have lots of pressure but the buck to doe ration is about 2 to 1 or 3 to 1 and i can see him in the daylight. I saw him twice this year. Once during bow season 50 yards away through the brush and he winded me the next time it was late and i watched him run the ridge below me. that tells me we have got potential just not enough people that want that

I asked this same question of NC DNR Officer David Denton and he said the best deer to remove are young does.Because: the older does are better mothers producing more milk, better protecting their young and producing healthy twins/triplets.
