I asked this same question of NC DNR Officer David Denton and he said the best deer to remove are young does.Because: the older does are better mothers producing more milk, better protecting their young and producing healthy twins/triplets.
I've heard many say the same thing.....but I also think it may have something to do with what shape your herd's already in. At least the offspring from the older does would stand a better chance of being healthy (vs. the young breeders). That seems to be what Ted Nugent is preaching....along with your C.O.. I'm going to ask the state wildlife bio, I guess.
