Is This Buck Alive?
   Is this deer alive??? Here is the story from another forum .... This deer was found laying on the concrete next to the John Deere Waterloo Factory. The email I got with the pics said it was soaking wet from either sweating or from being in the pond on JD property. My take on it is it was walking across the pond from it being frozen and fell through since it happened Jan. 10. After a long struggle to get out it wondering up by the factory and bedded down from feeling heat, notice the vents in one of the pics. The workers showed up for work and the buck was so exhausted and disorientated it could not get the strength to run away. This is just my opinion and will let everyone know if I hear anything more about it. |

Well it is standing and his head has moved in the pics...so i beleive he is alive but they should be careful. Messing with a wild animal like that could lead to trouble. Luckily they are wearing safety glasses!

It almost looks like the deer is leaning against the guard rail and the guys are maybe holding the head up ..... I dunno.... :eek:

Looks very alive and a whole lot disoriented and exhausted. I'm always amazed at how short these animals are compared to us side by side, but when there in the woods they look much larger.

I would guess it is a decoy for poachers,they have some very good looking rigs with heads that move.

I'd say its real.
Y'all go sit in a frozen lake for a few minutes then go curl up in a ball on concrete. We'll see how active you are, even with people around you. |

He is definately alive. You can see, especially in the first two pics, his eyes are in different postitions. Also, his eyes are nose is pretty wet, and his hide is wet. Just my thoughts.

I say its alive...you can see some tracks from its wet hooves.

I'll cast my vote! I'd say it's alive my opinion comes from the eyes as well. The deer the DNR uses still have glass eyes in themand the skin doesn't fold as natural.100% Alive.... at least when the pics were taken.

http://www.huntingnet.com/forum/tm.aspx?m=1867826&mpage=1 and i still say the same as before How did they get it to stand up like that? acting pretty much like a "downer cattle" in livestock circles, the picture part is pretty sad, i would have just left the animal where it was until it could be put down. but at a plant like that if someone had said i'll go get my gun, that person would have been fired quicker than the deer could have been dispatched. keep posting willyd5, the deer is sick but alive, i would have really perferred the paticipants left him alone[&o], some folks just don't know any better  and that is a shame. BTW, i have had goats do the same way, they cannot stand up on their own, but you can get them up, give them antibiotics, and hope they make it, some do, some don't, i have even held them up and as soon as you let go they get wobbly, they actually appear that their head is the heaviest part of their body and they will just fall out, i have alsoused hot-stick to get cows back up. but when an animal gets as sick as that deer is it probably has no idea of what is going on. jm2cfwiw |

The deer is alive i live about 10 miles away and the just took some pics before the dnr came and fiished it off it was hit by a car

Bow hunter is correct....was hit by a car and the dnr had to shoot it....to bad it had to be like that...Bow hunter15 where you live??? I live in Waverly

It is sad to think that , that magnificent animal was made to stand and pose for pictures after being hit with a car. Its insides were probably all busted up as it stood there.

All I can say is wow, if that deer were oustide where I work, he would now be at a taxidermist. I would not brag about hunting it, but I would sure enjoy looking at it on my wall.

At first I thought maybe he was a model...jk! They probably should have left that deer alone. First of all it is dangerous, but more so out of respect for the animal, after being hit by a car the trama of all the people probably didnt help.

it was discussed in the last forum posting of this topic that the deer was found in the field... after contemplating theory of what happened the most likely story was that this deer was found froze in the field in place where it stands now... they brought it over and propped it up against the guard rail.
besides, who is crazy enough to hold onto the rack of a buck... exhausted or not... one guy... c'mon.... but who knows..... crazier things have been caught on film and left me with minutes of enjoyment watching others in pain from their own stupidity.:D:D:D |

If that deer is alive the guy who took it without expiring it should be damned ashamed of himself putting a animal through that crap, that is just what peta and all the rest of them need to get ahold of is more reason to wanna shut us down...Stupid people piss me off

I would say that the deer is alive. If you look at his eyes, they are reflecting the light. I think if the deer is dead, you don't get the glare off of the eye's.

That's just sad. I don't understand what people are thinking sometimes. Maybe somebody should hit one of them with a car and then hold them up for some pictures. I bet that wouldn't settle very well though.

It's definitely alive. My friend I go to school with lives about a mile from the John deere plant in Waterloo. That really sucks for him because that is an awesome buck. I hope he spread his genes around for my friend's sake.

Not any more.......he was however when the pics were taken.
I didn't read this whole thread so sorry if this is redundant. I read about this a while back, sad case. I think it was struck by a vehicle and was very cold and dazed when the pics were taken. I believe it was put down by the local DNR as it was deemed that it would not survive it's injuries. |

sure looks alive. Despite the story, I don't think I would be messing with a wild animal.Normally nothing good ever happens.

The eyes look like they are looking in the same direction in each of those pics but i could be wrong...it is hard to tell
