Default Why do you think he left?

The day was Nov.15, 2006, it was a cool morning in the mid 40's cloudy littlewind blowing out of the west. I was setting in a summit viper stand on the edge of a 4 year oldcutover, backed about 25 yards off the edge an about 25 feet up a red oak.Thecutover was borderd by a creek an some mature oaks an 40 acres of pines an cedars. The time was about 0830, Isaw some movement coming through the pines an cedars an a 3.5 to 4 year old buck stepped out an started eating some acorns at about 45 yards. He was a9 point about 18 inches wide, decent mass. I watched himfor about 15 minutes, he made a scrap an closed the distance to about 30 yards, still not offering a shot. He locked up an started looking to the west towards me, but not at me, his hair bristled up on his back. He then started acting nervous an tucked his tail an turn an ran back intothe thick cover.hint (bad timing)

I would guess he left because the area dominant buck showed up.

I think you cut a fart stinky enough to make the hair on his back stand up. I would run too.

Wind direction? Could he have scented you?

How do you do it.

I think I'm going down to the "Enhancement Request / Wish List"
and suggest a "Dear Mowtown" forum. I think you've earned your own question and answer forum.

You'll never know unless you can communicate with him. To say the wind and rain sent him running is pure conjecture. They live in the stuff. I'd say since the rain came from behind you and toward you and he left... he smelled you.
